Im pretty sure mine is failing, I am running too rich. Question is how easy is this to replace? And honestly I do not know of its exact location or what it looks like. Trust I am a quick learner.

Any help?

Also should I go ahead and buy from St. Charles or another distributor?

Pretty easy if you have tool to remove internal ring grommet (??? see pic below ;)) something like that:

Just in case you want go with aftermarket, do not buy Standart Motor/GP Sorensen unit, Neihoff/Borg Warner should be fine. They are available in Checkers at least.

This is the FPR showing correct assembly, and part #. its at the drivers side rear of the injector fuel rail.

Just compare price from Checkers and Isuzu and select cheapiest source. I think it is exactly same part in different packages (Neihoff/Borg Warner/Isuzu).

So I finally got my FPR in mail today from drivewerks.com. But I come home to find out that my retaining ring pilers tips are too large to fit through the holes.

Question is are these pilers easily purchased at HD or Lowes in smaller tip sizes?

In worst case you can use file on what you have ;) But I think HD/Lowes/Sears should have them in right size.

Bought some new ones with multiple tips and angles. They are great. BUTTTTTT. Iv got the fuel rail almost completely off and can not get the bolts that attach the black cover over the fuel pressure regulator unbolted from the common chamber. Even PB blaster has not worked yet.

Ill post pics later, if you all do not know what bolts I am talking about. They are completely round and require a large allen wrench. Talk about leverage with an allen wrench.

Has anyone done this repair yet?

If I understand correctly, you talking about the bolts marked as 340 here:

Mine bracket was holded with the internal hex on the side and regular metric bolt on the rear actually :_confused The side bolt was replaced with the regular bolt at the end, though - I also almost rounded it with not 100% fitted tools ;)

Nice diagram, where did you pull that from?

I gave up on it for now going to try tomorrow maybe the pb blaster will soak in more by that time.

I almost busted the allen wrench trying to lossen it.

For the diagram, check the right sidebar under "downloads".

Go to Sears & get a set of 3/8" drive metric allen wrenches (that fit on a ratchet) if you haven't already...they work tons better than the cheapo L shaped ones.

I'm not sure about US, but in Russia we have ability to request parts by factory part number, so Isuzu Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) is very usefull here. And also it gives you a tip on whether some parts could be bought splitted or only assembled (gaskets, motors, etc).
Probably there no more other manuals related to VX directly, but there Workshop Manuals for Troopers and Rodeo/Amigo. So, if someone wish to install manual hubs, for example, he might get a tip on how that done on Trooper :)

Update: Could not for anything get those bolts off.

SO instead I decided to paint the honey comb on my grill white. And my cladding screws silver. Pics comin soon.

Any suggestions of what to do with those bolts? Or how else to get that FPR out?

I picked up a set of these at Advanced Auto before I started my S/C install. $14 and comes with a couple interchangable head sizes. Works great for snap rings like the one used on the fuel regulator.

That's where I bought mine too that I used to replace my fuel pressure regulator...also used them on the snap-ring inside the front hubs during wheel bearing repack!

FINALLY REPLACED MY FPR.....

That 340 bolt on the back of the chamber is a pain in the *****. I wonder how anyone else got that loose. ??? Jolly?

Anyways. I average 13.6 mpg prior to this change and hard start ups (cranking the key while depressing the gas pedal for about 7 seconds each time), misfire codes daily and lots of gas smelling exhaust. But remember I am lifted and running 20'' chrome rims or 265-75 tires otherwise.

After replacing it. I was crusing at 60ish mph and saw on my scan gauge for the first time instant mpg over - 20 -. Also, it has fired up each time like it should with no gas pedal depression or exhaust. And I drove all day without a misfire code.

-- I would advise everyone to at least look at and clean your FPR even if you dont have the symptoms I do. Mine was very dirty and full of debris.

hey, good to hear you got it replaced! you mentioned cleaning?? do you think its a cleanable part? and what did a new fpr cost you??
just curious.....all these post about better mileage lately is encouraging....i know it will never be great mileage in a vx, but better is always good!!

At this point of driving to work with hwy and city driving included in the excursion. I would at least say an increase of 3-4mpg for me. I would hope to see this tank reach about 17.3ish. (Once again Im lifted running heave 20'' rims with a 31ish inch tire)

I would think it could be cleaned with some fuel treatment on a rag. There was also some debris on top of the screen. It cost $70 but well worth it over time. I used to not see 230 miles a tank. Should have taken pictures. (started about about 8pm last night in the driveway not the garage, it started to POUR down about a half hour into it.) Woke up a little early for work and was in a rush to put the VX back together).

Here is the link for the one I bought. Enlarge the picture of the part the mesh screen on mine was dirty and sort of clogged and there was debris on top of it.

Oh sweet Baby Jesus.

I cannot for the life of me get that dang bolt out. THe one facing the cabin. NOthing I have fits in the area for me to ratchet. I have an adjustablke head one I just bought...no dice. Is taht Craftsman ratchet above thinner in some way than the average ratchet?

I tried everything from a horisonztal screwdriver/ratvhet thing (ratchet is too weak...the thing splits and won
t turn tight bolt)...adjustable head ratchet...to trying to use pliers to just turn a hex bit. NOthing works...the space to the wall is too short to get anything in...and the bolt itself is too tight!

FYI that ETM manual scan on rapidshare is the 99 manual - there's a separate 00 manual that covers the differences in the climate control. From what I can tell the rest of the manual is the same.

Just a FYI on mileage...on the run up to the Gilbert MN meet, I averaged 17.5.
(factoring in 11% difference in tire dia.)It was a70-75 deg. day & the average speed was 60-65. I'm lifted, s/c'd, & have a MUCH heavier than stock tire/wheel combination. Don't know if it helped much, but I had just cleaned my K&N cone & installed an oiled foam pre cleaner.

oh holy crap. I won't even go over all the crap I've been doing the last few weekends trying to get that thing. bolt still in. still crappy mpg. the not-as-hot weather has made starting not a problem anymore, though.

Your idea is great though. I don't have a pipe handy...you use anything specific? I need to get a vice grip pliers and put a hex bit into the hole, twist via pliers. I tried with regular pliers...but it kept slipping. I really, really don't know how anyone can get that thing out. I've probably spent more on new tools that I could have just paying someone to do it...

Yep. Bought one at the suggestion of a previous post in this thread. No dice.

THe bit is too long. THrough a lot of effort I might get everyting IN there....but theres no room for the bolt to loosen/turn. My best headway came from hammering the end of an allen wrench. But the bolt is now turned to a point where the allen wrench can only be oriented in a way that I can't easily hammer.

what about taking an allen wrench and cutting the end off of it (so its just a straight hex key) and then using a regular 6mm crescent wrench to turn that?

Yeah.. but like the pics below perhaps.

You could also grind it down on a bench grinder. A Hacksaw will not cut it so don't even try that.

A short 6mm allen really is handy for this. :rolleyes:

I used a non cut allen, then stuck the extension handle from my small floor jack over it. USE PB BLASTER

yep thats where the idea came from... being short makes it harder to reach in there and pull the allen wrench out each time.... so its easier for me to use be able to put it back there once and then just use a crecent wrench from there same basic idea though... btw thanks for the write up dino... finally gave me the guts to tackle the project.. been puttin it off for like a year
