I had some free time this afternoon (still visiting friends in SC), so I decided to take in one of the local offerings. The BMW Visitors Welcome Center and Assembly Plant of Spartansburg, SC. The following pics are from only the welcome center though as cameras were not allowed on the factory tour.
I had a few pics I wanteded to post so I thought links might be best.
My Beemer wannabe parked out front.

While I used to be a bit more of a gearhead than I am now, I still found the factory tour very interesting. The utilization of robotics in modern assembly plants is truly amazing.
Another cool thing to remember if you ever decide to order an X3, X5, or Z4 Beemer for yourself is the option to go to the SC plant to take delivery in person. BMW will pick you up at the airport, put you up for the night, buy you dinner (then breakfast the next morning), give you a tour of the factory, and give you some track time at their neighboring Performance Center to teach you how to drive your new ride more effectively. All free of charge (all you have to do is get yourself there).
And apparently, a person can also now follow the real-time assembly process of their vehicle online if they like.
I took the tour because I was in the area and it seemed like it'd be interesting. I don't drive a Beemer (more of a Porsche fan myself),
but my brother does so I know he'll be envious of my tour today.
More info here if you want to know more about the place.
