well guys i am involved in a wild goose chase, you see the first sunday in january i was broadsided by a yukon xl in the king of prussia mall parking lot. now the damage is not that bad, (cladding banged up, door dented, door wont open) but it is still drivable i drove it home. It has been in my garage since (the door is wedge opened at the top). The guys agent came out to look at it and said there was $2800 worth of damage now we talked to out insurance and were directed to take it Grand sport auto body, very good shop they fixed my baby last accident and had done $10k on my sisters benz, however this time around they cannot get parts as easily, they were able to get the little pieces with only a little trouble but everything else is a no show. so as it is my VX sits in the garage undriven until who knows when the parts come in. so to all of you guys out there be careful and watchful because god forebid something happens who knows how long you'll be out im 2+ months now and luckily i have my talon i can drive over spring break.

Have the shop give Merlin a call at St. Charles Isuzu. If anyone can find them he can. Also make the shop aware that to get a lot of the parts a vin# is needed. They do this so the parts don't get horded by one or two dealers...who would then jack the prices. The dealership I took mine to told me this and Merlin confirmed it.

To avoid this kind of hassle in the future many will have to start insuring with specialty insurers, such as used in the collector car community. The general insurance industry isn't configured for the task of repairing hand-built limited production vehicles and this instance is just an example of why.
Here's a local outfit for an idea of the different coverage you get from these places: http://www.heacockclassic.com
Just Yahoo or Google "collector car insurance" and you'll see what I mean.
The price of being unique! ;)

I know some people who use Eastwood for their custom rods. I was surprised at how reasonably priced it was. I was expecting it to be considerably more than "regular" insurance.

I think I am going to consider this. Joe that company has a minimum age for coverage. I am shy by 8 years.

Try American Hobbyist at www.AmericanHobbyist.com. They provided me a quote for my 2001 VX as follows:
Liability 50/100/25,000
PIP 250,000
Uninsured 15/30/10,000
Road Guard $100.00 - towing, hotel, locksmith etc.
Comprehensive/Collision/Spare Parts - deductible $500
Total Annual Premium $310
Requested Value $18,000
Hope this helps.

from American Hobbyist page under qualifications:
Unlike some of our competitors, American Hobbyist allows you to enjoy driving your collector vehicle without worrying about strict mileage limitations*. As long as you use your regular car(s) for everyday driving and your collector vehicle on a limited basis (e.g., pleasure rides, hobby activities, exhibitions, etc.), you will be well-protected by American Hobbyist.
Leaves me out, I love driving my VX, plus it is my daily driver

Hey 99 I just had mine fixed(Deer suicide).I was told the parts were on national backorder 3-4 months+.But they showed up after two weeks. The shop gave Merlin a call,I am not sure if that was the reason the parts came so fast. Also that estimate seems kinda low? Have you tried another bodyshop?or call Isuzu yourself? Good Luck Tony B

Isn't every drive in the VX a "pleasure ride"? So I guess your covered! ;Dy;
Unfortunetly this will become more of a problem. If they can't get new parts you may have no choice but to use used parts.
Also even if you had rental car coverage with your insurance, that will usually only cover the first 30 days. The person's insurance who hit you, should be held responsible for lost usage.
Otherwise if the time out of service and cost of repair near the value of the vehicle, then the only other option would be to consider the vehicle totaled and purchase the vehicle from you for it's fair market value.
