The shop tells me I need "both front axles."

Simple question....is Merlin the best person to call? Thanks.

People seem to go to him for just about everything else, so if nothing else, he may at least have further info.

Out of curiousity, why is your shop saying you need new front axles?

I lifted the VX about as high as I could to fit the 265/70/17 Bridgestones (trimmed cladding, and it still rubs). Over the course of 40,000 miles this year, the increased angles stressed the axles, ripped all CV boots and the dirt and crud getting inside finished them off....I knew it was coming, just not so soon.

That makes me think twice about being lifted and running 265/75/16's

Just keep a close watch on your cv boots, get real familiar with a "how to" article, & order a set of Meca-Tech boots from Indy to have on hand for WHEN they go, you'll be fine. ;)

Bimmr, that sucks, sorry to hear about that. I'm sure you'll still be ready for Moab ?

Anybody got Merlin's phone number?....I can never find it on this site (someone post in in the "links" section, unless I'm just missing it).

Gotta get on the axle search today, but unless I can't find them, I'll be ready for Moab, and either way, nothing will stop the BBQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JHarris: Keep in mind, because I have wheels with a small inner bore hole, I had to use 2 1/4 inch spacers to clear the hub....since the tires sit out further, there is a much bigger problem with rubbing when turning the wheel....that means cranking it to ride a bit higher and more trimming than usual....pain in the arse, but I like the aggressive stance. I'll see if I can snap a pic and post it shortly......

I always use the old "find any post by TONE trick"...he has Merlins number tagged to his sig.

Thanks, Your Dubness. calling now.....

Here's the piccy with $1.88 worth of Starbucks running down the door. the wing makes a great coffee holder when loading the VX....just don't forget and drive off.

Wow, I'm gonna start keeping an eye open for spares
I remember a post by either Bigmeat or SPAZZ talking about looking for some super strong high angle CV's. I think it was from some place out of Colorodo, I wonder if they ever found them, and how much they were...

...is why I have chosen to stay stock...OUCH!

Stock? What's that? C'mon man!!!! You're THE MASK!!!!!!!!!!

Put a 6" SkyJacker on there. Can you imagine how much black paint you would get to use if you put 24" rims on there? Sounds like a dream come true. :p

I have thought about lifting my VX, but the only reason I would like to do it is for extra clearance...

As far as looks go, I am still 100% satisfied with my VX...I just need some clear side markers!!

;) Bart

Nite-shade your clear markers. I have an order for three cans on the way. Plan to shade all markers and tail lights.

Yeah, I am thinking of just spraying mine straight black. I want to get an extra set though just in case...

Strange, is there that much difference between an 60 series and 70 series. I mounted 185 60 18s Toyo AT's and only had to trim the front lip of the cladding. And it looks goooooooooooooood!

P.S. no lift

Bimati
03/21/2007, 04:43 PM
Yep. It has alot to do with wheel size/diameter, spacers, and the profile (60/70/75 etc) of the tire (which is proportionately affected by the rim diameter).....if you can tell from my avatar, my 265/70/17 lifted the VX higher than I have seen others....even sitting beside another VX with a 3" lift, mine looks like about 5"....I like it, but it's a pain in the arse for rubbage, and I wouldn't recommend it for others.....

JHarris1385

I have noticed how high yours looks, and I dont understand. I put 912's on it, like I think you have plus I have 265/75/16 = 31.65 and your set up 265/70/17 = 31.61....equalling mine with a VERY slight hieght advantage and it still seems lower than yours.

$700 per side!?!?!?!?!?!

That's almost the cost of a solid axle swap. :naughty:

Wish I would have known that before I bought them....I'm a four wheeling greenie, so I didn't know I had any options. :(

I would have got them here for a lot less. You could buy almost 10 times as many.

AXLES (http://www.alldiscountautoparts.com/discountparts/buy.php?make_text=isuzu&ml=veh--001&model_text=vehicross&year=1999&part_name=drive_shaft_assembly&brand_name=arc&s=1&my=1)

OUCH!

Bimati, did they at least offer to use KY at the price you were quoted?

Why such a HUGE price difference? Are the ones in the link above junk and not OEM? Or are you getting the same parts and quality as stock?

JHarris1385

Whoa, return yours and get a SAS or ones from that link. Even if they charge you a restocking fee it is going to be WAY cheaper or better.

Gentlemen,

Words cannot express the distaste I have for being fooked in the bum without the proper courtship, no dinner, no KY, not even a "please" or "thank you."

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Thanks Phychos2 Shawn for the link. If this works out, I owe you a damn nice dinner when you're near Colorado.

Beej: Still driving to Denver/Ft. Collins every week to see my daughter....the miles will keep getting piled on, problems or not! :)

Here's the good news: I cancelled the OEM order from Merlin, and there's not even a restocking fee since Isuzu hadn't shipped them yet!!!!!!! :) :) :)

I ordered the ARC units from the link.....although I fully expect them to show up made out of plastic and balsa wood, you can't go wrong for that price....I couldn't buy an OEM fart for that price.

Thanks guys....a great example of why this forum exists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poop.

That ARC link that was posted is a farce. They changed my credit card and never provided the axles, and will not return email and will not answer the phones when I call....

I am now starting the axle search again.....anyone? Anyone?

Try putting in a request at allhyundaiisuzu.com. They usually get back to you within a day or two with a decent price on just about any part you could be looking for.
