Is the spare the same for 1999,2000,2001 ? thanks shawn
Does anybody know if a bigger tire can go on the spare rim to match the size of original 18" rim tires so not to have the problem with the TOD when a flat occurs and you have to use the spare.

Otto, don't think it's a problem with fitting a different size tire on the rim, but fitting a different size tire in the rear door?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question...
So if I have a rear flat tire I should put the spare on the front, and one of the good front wheels on the back.
...right?

Spare should always go on the rear. :)

DO NOT put the spare tire on the rear of the VX.. thats an excellent way to screw up your TOD read the owners manual or the tire.. both clearly state it should be on the FRONT of the vehicle

Spare should always go on the rear. :)
If you put it on the rear you will screw up the rear axle. The spare goes on the front only. shawn

Now, this brings up yet another question. Okay, it's a given, the spare always go's on the front. But what about us that are not running the standard OEM tire as in 245/60/18 on the 00/01's.
You need a full size spare.

might as well take our your stock spare to save weight since its about useless w/ bigger tires

Yeah, I just bought a full sized spare. After looking and looking for a generic steel rim with the same specs as my Chambers, I just gave up and bought another teflon Chamber (ouch) and another BFG A/T in the same size (ouch, ouch). But, now I feel confident I can get myself off the trail with no problems if I get a flat. I will probably carry the spare in my Coleman basket up top for trips and for normal driving I will just keep it in the back. I don't think I will be able to fit in my garage with the spare up top all the time (dammit).
I have a sinister idea for my spare tire space in the tailgate.
