Hi gang!
My engine whistling! I was driving today with oprn windowns and i notice that when im accelerating im hearing some kind of whistinh from under my car. It sounds kinda like cars with turbo sucking air that kinda sound like that. I tryed reving at idle and no sound only when im on gear and it start making that noise at 2000 RMP and higher, after 4000 RPM i cant hear it because sound engine gets louder. What it could be? Im thinking it mind be timing belt? my tranny currently leaking but i dont think it can make that noise and i have no idea what else it could be.
thanks for answers

Could be the elbow on the air box intake. It makes a noise when pulling in lots of air.
I took mine off - made a deeper sounding intake - cool....

It might be your Intake Manifold Gaskets -- especially if you've also noticed any odd or irratic surging RPMs at idle.

I just replaced my intake manifold gasket to remedy the same symptom. My whistle could be heard even at idle, but became louder as the RPMs increased. I hope your whistle is from something easier to fix. Good luck.

Agreed.
However, there is a 'Cheater's Trick' to doing the install that makes the job go a whole lot more quickly...
Instead of actually removing the Intake, if you have an extra pair of hands around to help-out, it is *possible* to lift the Intake up off of the studs just enough to remove to old Gaskets and slide the new ones into place.

My VX just started doing this. I hear a pretty loud whistle and it is coming from under the hood, and it gets louder as I accelerate. No CEL, no idle surging, just loud whistling. Still seems like it must be the intake manifold gaskets.
So, who has done these themselves? Wondering how much has to come off and how long it takes.
Thanks - Bart

I had a whining/whistling sound whenever I would put the gas pedal down more than 50% or when going up a hill and I took it into the shop and they found it was the EGR valve and a hole in the pipe going to the EGR valve.

Problem with my whistle, is it is intermittent. Its not doing it today.

Loose EGR tube nut? If it's backed all the way out, it could be intermittently seating itself then popping out again due to engine vibrations.
