If anyone is interested we have a car show going on in Newberg Oregon on June 16th. I've typically taken my 73 Challenger, but this year I've got a new toy (My VX of course) and thought some of you would like to show up as well (Really giv'em something to see!). We've been putting this on for quite a few years and it draws a lot of cars and people, we even have most of the bugs worked out so everything seems to go pretty smooth. :)
Did I mention Free food! Tube Steaks if you can call that food :p So, come and see even if you don't enter your rig (Entry's like 5bucks and included a Dash plack, Door Prizes, Awards, ...)
It looks like they don't have the new flyer up yet, but here's the link to last years event (It just says the wrong day, so remember it's actually SATURDAY the 16th!!!)

Everyone is welcome, Anyone interested?

Dude, that sounds great!
Just one problem: I want to see your VX AND your '73 Challenger! I wouldn't mind driving that beast...can you get a second driver to bring the Dodge to the meet?
I even have that Saturday open, which is strange for a wedding photographer.
I may have to visit Fabulous Newberg: "Gateway to Yamhill!"

Great to hear you have that weekend open. As for the Challenger - I was thinking about that and... Yeah, the Dodge'll probably make it. It hasn't even been out of the garage yet this year. :( (Don't get wwwaaaayyy to excited, cuz it's not all that perfect, but a Petty Blue, 340, pistol grip 4speed, Rally car is cool anyway) :)

Hey Eric, Mapquest says 2 hour and 22 minutes from Olympia, 138 miles.
I'm game. Techy, what time is the show and what time would we need to be there so we can set up together?

I verified that things are the same as last year. (That's why I didn't get back to ya right away)
Show up about 10:00, that gives about an hour+ or so before the crowd start showing up (Gives us time to get setup, signed up,...). If we know you are coming, but a little later, I'll leave space for ya, so we can have our rigs together.
It officially starts at 12:00noon, and goes till 4:00.
We could probably go grab some Pizza or something afterwards if you guys are not in to much of a hurry to head back.
I'm getting excited already! :)

Any other Oregon VXers going to this meet? I'm heading down that way on Friday the 15th, to spend the day (and night) in Portland. Then I'll visit Newberg the next morning.
It would be great to see some other northwest vehicross.info members!

Hey Eric, great to see you at Tula's 5/30/7. Might have to come back and see Greta again in June. man that lady can do scat. Anyway, am pretty sure I will do the same, but if she who must be obayed also comes, won't be able to get to Portland till 8'ish.

If you get to Portland late, we can always meet for dinner somewhere. During the day I usually just hit the stores and the bakeries...Hawthorne District, Pearl District, 23rd Street...you know. Watch the bums, visit a pub, take the dogs to the park.
I wish I needed something expensive, so I could buy it there and not pay sales tax.

Now if it was Sunday, I could make it. :(

Dang it, Bulldoggie...how tough can it be to change the "Port" to "Berg?"
Hopefully I can meet you at the NEXT meetup!
Man this means I have to detail the VX :)
I'll be there!
I'll pass this on to the rest of the North Valley Cruzzers and see if some of my friends will show up.

Hey Techy, looks like your going to have to scope out a section of this place, maybe with some big boulders and mud holes or something.
Also, if there is any interest, there is Capital Lakefair here in Olympia on the 20th of July. It is a open show, street dance, free concerts and fair rides, and many food stands. Here is a link to it.

Ha, I'm not shure they would "DIG" that, so I guess ya gotta bring your own boulder. 8^)
JAFO - It'll be great to see ya again - I gotta detail mine as well... Details, Details! 8^) Oh, and yeah bring some of the Cruzzers! (If theres going to be a bunch of you, let me know or call Rick (he's on the flyer I think), so they'll have a rough headcount)
Bulldoggie - You can put it on the calendar for next year! I'm sure we'll all get connected someday. (I still think you should be able to do that little "Port" & "Berg" switch - It sounds really easy) 8^)

only about 80mi. between port > berg.
If it wasn't work related, I would be in berg.
Jafo didn't see that I saw him last week in Corvallis. That's 3 times I've seen his rig without meeting.
Techy; did you get your window problem taken care of?
I do travel to Portland alot, it would be a small detour to Newberg.

I've fixed my window (Up/down) problem with silicon spray and healthy cleaning, Door handle (disconnected from rod) problem with new plastic piece, replaced my fuel injector O rings, and some other maintenance stuff. I still want to change out some more fluids and find a better glue to hold my door/window piller gasket together (it came apart a month or so after I glued it). Actually masking tape has done wonders, but you gotta replace it once in a while so it doesn't get gooey! 8^) ) Thanks, I think I'm good, at least for now (But I know who to call!).

Yeah, what's up with that weather forcast? Let's see if the weatherman can roll the dice and get us another one!
As for Motels; The Travelodge and the Shilo are both a good bet. The Town & Country is a small motel (maybe 10units), but might be nice?? Also there are a number of bed and breakfast places around this area. I can get ya #'s and such if you need. If it wasn't for the mess/disaster I have over here, I could put ya up for the night. Maybe someday I'll get my act together.

Gas prices have dropped! Woo hoo!

It'll be a rare occurance if it rains on that day. They choose it because it has only rained like 3times in the last 15years or something like that, but still no guarantee. Gas was $3.03 on Friday! (It dropped like .20 in 3days)

Speaking of Oregon and gasoline...
...why do they still insist on pumping your gas for you? The first time I ever drove through, I started pumping my own fuel and the attendant just about had a heart attack.
This is 2007, and frankly it's kind of creepy that they're still holding on to that tradition.

The gas station owners in Olympia haven't read the news. Shell just down the road in town was STILL at $3.35 Sunday afternoon.
Newberg forcast for Saturday: partly cloudy with a chance for showers. High around 70. Sounds like a safe bet forcast, whatever it does, you were right with your forcast.
So Eric, know where your staying yet?

Not highjacking, but on the "other side of the river" I waited and waited for attendants sitting in the comfort of their mini store to reset a pump and I've gone into the store as many as four times trying to get them to reset the pump, without them getting it right. Not to mention several different types of pumps and procedures for starting them.
I pumped gas when I was young and the smell is not for nice clothes, and dosen't wash away easily, I know people in a hurry think they can get in and out faster, but I never have, and I don't like the idea of my 80+ year old mother having to get out in the winter and pump her own gas.
I think the gas companies can well afford to have an atttendant pump their product. and you have bought into a falsehood that pumping yourself saves you money..Ha Ha.. and time.
Now that you have let yourself become their product despencer, you cannot go back to our convience, we could always add a self serve island in the future, and you can still get out of your car and go into their stores.

I have to agree, I will NOT ride with her.
She dosen't drive much these days, but she lives up by you, so she does pump her own.

Awwww, MAN!
It is with great disappointment that I must formally remove myself from this fun VX Meet. I've been "drafted" to take photos on Saturday, and it is for an organization I've worked with before.
The group is called Global Family Alliance, and they operate an annual respite program for Belarussian children. These kids are from the area of Belarus that was affected by fallout from the Chernobyl disaster. Every year, a group of families host children for two months during the summer, providing nutricious food, free medical and dental care and a variety of other services. It's a wonderful charity, and I really cannot say "no" to them.
Check out the operation here...they're really getting some great results. I have met some of the same kids over the past two years, and they really blossom with some good old Westernized food and medicine!
http://globalfamilyalliance.org/
I hate to drop out of the Newberg meet, but these kids really will break your heart. They deserve all the support they can get!

Techy, hey, any chance you can organize a friday night burger & beer call with the local VX'ers? I should be down there by 6pm.

Bummer Eric, but in a good way (I do some work along those lines at times, and, in the big picture, it is way more important than a car show!) Oh, and they do let me pump my own gas at times (when they are slamed and I get out and stand there - they have to take the nozel off the machine and hand it to you).
Row: Looks like You, Me, and JAFO, at this point (The Local PROTON is going to be out of town). I've got a normally scheduled home group get together with some friends from Church from 7 to about 9 on Friday nights. I'll let ya know when I hear what the plan is for this week, sometimes we skip a week or do dinner, you are welcome to join us if we're meeting, or go out before/after. I'll PM Ya with the details when I hear.
Hey JAFO, You're welcome to what ever we figure out as well. This is all quite last minute for me, so sorry for all the uncertainty (It's not like me!).

Thanks Techy. I will be leaving Oly at 2:30 so should hit Portland traffic just when it is starting to pick up, yippie, hey, I drive for a living so no biggie, just hope it's slow enough so I can read a book. Am surprised some folks from the Port/Van area haven't spoken up. I emailed most everyone down that way from my Pacific Northwest Email list last weekend but haven't gotten ONE RESPONSE and I use right guard, whats the deal P.N.W. VX'ers? I know BullDog and Eric are busy, but there are a whole bunch more down there like: BigMoTruckGuy, Consaka, Little Laurie, wow, just looked, there are a bunch in Portland. Anyway Techy, just made res at the Shilo on Sitka. name is John Ford in case anyone wants to check up on me there and take me out and wine and dine me. I'll bring some blue jeans in case I should get knee crawling,... I hope. Ain't it great to have a kitchen pass. Just sent you a PM with my cell #
I'm up for burgers or whatever.
Let me know I'll watch the board more frequently till Saturday.
I invited everyone at the North Valley Cruzzers to the show. Don't know how many will attend I will try and find out at Thursdays meeting.
Well I better get working on detailing the VX.

So JAFO, is the North Valley Cruzzers a VX group?????
No actually it is a muscle car club.
I am the only member though that doesn't have a domestic vehicle. (VX and 1980 RX-7 Turbo)
They put up with me though.
I did have a '73 Ford Ranchero 460 for a weekend, before I was a member. No I didn't crash! I purchased it pending a compression test, which it horribly failed on two cylinders. I should have kept it anyway, it is the biggest thing that I have regretted doing. It had dual exhaust out the sides and it sounded better than any car I have ever heard.
I'm also a member of Rotary Power Northwest (www.RPNW.org) where I was President for two years. And have attended the Cascade Sports Car club. But you really need a co-pilot to do the road rallys and I'm single.

We're supposed to be heading out on friday to Christmas Valley Oregon to do some playing in the sand with the quads. It's looking like we may change the plans and stay home so its possible we might be able to catch up with ya'll for either a burger friday or to check out the show on Saturday. Keep me posted of the plans and if we're still in town we'll get there.. I guess that means its time to get out the wash mit. If I can make it, ya'll can see the magnetic bra up close and personal.
p.s. I don't offer to show my bra to just anyone. :winkg:

I'm available to go out and grab a bite to eat before or after, but that would be a bit late). I'm up for suggestions, but I'll throw this out there, how about Burgerville (Tillamook Burger and fresh Strawberry Shake!) at about 6:00? I'll PM ya with my # as well, and check this tomorrow.

I'm up for a tillamook burger, but make mine a vanilla malt. No promises that I'll be there in time though but will certainly do a drive by and park. Little Laurie, hope it's at the same place as last year. here are the directions from the poster:
DIRECTIONS: West bound on hwy 99, just before you enter the downtown area of Newberg. Make a right turn on Villa Road. Travel down Villa till you come to Newberg Christian Church located on the left.
number of vx's, well, me, TechyD, JAFO, so far and hope you. JGeorge264 across the river from you might be down for a burger and check out the show.
Hope to see you there, might be fun

Rowhard - Right on with the directions! (Villa is at a light - big intersecton so easy to find). The church is at the end of villa by a big open field, so again easy to find. There should be plenty of signs, with arrows, as well.
If anyone needs a map: http://www.newbergcc.org/Map.aspx
Also Burgerville is on the south side of 99W near the East end of Town (near Elliott Rd.)
LITTLELAURIE - Come on over! There'll be lots of cars, and looks like a nice # of VX's as well. (At this rate it doesn't look like my Challenger will make it, but PHO2G4 isn't either, so... I guess he won't be disapointed)
JGeorge264 - Same goes for you, come on over! A fun way to fill a Saturday!
JAFO - Burgerville? If Rowhard may be sliding in a little later we could aim for more of a 6:15/6:30 ish (I'll probably show up and hang in the parking lot till someone arrives - if Nobody by 7:00 I'll have eaten and see ya Saturday ;) ).

I did manage to remove the roof rack in preperation for cleaning, and I'll have it back on for the show. Especially since I can't find the coverings. My problem is I put them somewhere I wouldn't loose them.

I loosened the bugs on the front of mine, but I've still got time to finish cleaning, so don't feel bad. ;) I think I can get out of here a little earlier than normal today!!! That'll help.

So, for those of you who weren't able to make it... Here's a few Highlights as I saw them:
1) Tillimook Burgers and Strawberry Shakes!!!
2) 4 VX's (3 at a time) Catching attention from every direction.
3) Rowhard reworking my cladding and JAFO's as well!!!! (It's a lot more rich black colored again!) :) :)
4) I thought Rowhards legs would give out, going up to collect all his awards! (3 of them!!!)
5) JAFO won an award as well! (Hows the batmobile doing?)
6) My friends got to meet some more of my friends! (This was an all around pretty good weekend)
7) Tube Steaks! (Can't forget them - Right off the BBQ!)
I'm sure I missed a bunch of things, so JAFO and Row jump in and give your thoughts if you like. I took a couple pictures on Friday evening and then forgot my camera for Saturday, but I think JAFO took some pics for us.
NEXT YEAR - SAME TIME SAME PLACE!

No problem doing the cladding, let the folks here know what you think of that stuff I use in a week or so. You should be able to just take a rough towel after the rains and wipe out the drain lines. I'll bring a crawler next time and do the A arms,... yea right.

Derek, very nice, wish you had drove that but then I wouldn't have been able to do your cladding. I mentioned the Barrett-Jackson Auction that you have never watched. here is what a 1973 Dodge Challenger Coupe went for last year, not to say yours could sell for this much and you have how many cars hanging around your property. You might just want to do a search of their site to see what you have then maybe you will want to build that barn to put them in.

Maybe if I hold on to it and restore it I could retire early.

JAFO - Thanks for the Pics, they turned out nice! (And for the rest of you, there really were more than 4 cars that showed up) :)

None Eric, you know me better then that. So tell us about your weekend, am sure it was much more rewarding.

Yep, there was approximately thirty to forty cars. I think that the clouds scared off the big crowd. Techy-D said that they had sixty plus last year. But honestly the weather was perfect, nice cool breeze over cast with occasional sun. Very nice day for a car show. Also I heard that there where many shows on that day. Two in Salem one in Sheridan one on the coast. Big day for car guys & girls :)
Even The Newberg Ford dealership brought some new cars; Mustang GT and $60K GT-H and Harley Davidson Edition Ford F-150 crew cab. rohard was eying the cold air intake on the GT and had me take a couple pictures for him.
