After contemplating a bedliner/undercoating type spray on bra to cover 102K worth of 80mph rock chips, I finally did it last night.

Thanks to the inspiration of Ldub and his bad-arse ride, here it is.

The bedliner looks and feels great, however, to be honest, I think I'm changing to a charcoal pinstripe. I don't want to start wearing a feathered, wide brim cap and havin' my peeps call me Mack Daddy.

Anyway...thought I'd share. Thanks, Ldub.

looks good.

i agree, with switching over to a dark grey or even black edge. the red stripe reminded me of the 60's batmobile (nothing wrong with that, though) or an ode to the grille of the vw gti.

nice job, though.

Bimmr...

That looks awfully decent I must say...very much liking the line you used.

Also, I like the "Batmobile tribute" look...Mack Daddy Bim... :p

In the process, I also set a new standard for ghetto tools in the Bim garage...I have created one of the most accurate and complex measuring tools ever created. Patent pending........um, yep, it's a dime pencil and a paperclip.

Me thinks I'll store it in my batbelt.

After looking some more, I noticed that your finish appears to be less "sandpaperish" than mine...did you use Plasti-kote ?, & if so, how far away were you holding the can ?
That looks to be a possible option for refinishing the insert.

Ldub:

I had just purchased a spray can of Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating before I got your PM....it's nice and rubbery and "smooth" with the orange peel/badonkadonk texture to it. I would recommend it. Sprayed 6-8 inches from surface.

I like the coating/texture well enough that I am going to do the inner wheel wells with it too.

I remember running my hand over your bra (insert joke here), and I actually thought you had used that anti skid marine stuff...

Bim,
now im scarred.....i too have used an exact replica of your paperclip/pencil tool several times over the years, when i am scribing trim against a complex profile. even scarrier, is, thats a bic, my guess .05mm lead. genneraly, the only pencil i ever use when in the shop.
i couldnt believe it when i saw your pic.....lol
anyway, the bra looks great!!! good job!!

Necessity is the mother of all invention...

Indeed it is .5mm lead. It tastes much better than the other sizes. :p

Random note: the first car I ever fell in love with was the 1978 Corvette pace car. (when I was 6)...silver/red/black. Hmmmmm.

After years of sporting the "Zorro-look" of the front O.E.M. bra on my VX...

I second that opinion...lol.

Wow. That looks really nice and professional. I didn't get that you did it yourself till the later post. Now someone with an ebony needs to do it so I can see how it looks black on black. And my bf was saying even before I read someone else saying it, that it sounds like a possible coating for the hood insert.

Well, I got a package in the mail and changed it up a bit (went from red pinstripe to charcoal pinstripe)....

Hmmmm...I was kind of growing fond of the red..........

The red did give it a certain "something". ;)

Looks good with the grey too...tough call.

I liked the red pinstripe, too. Funny how a small red pinstripe can changed the whole look. I did the same thing with the wheels on my '82 Mustang GT.

Without the pinstrip, the wheel just looks too plain. Maybe you could try one size thinner on the red, and run it over the joint between the black and the charcoal.

I like the look! With red or grey... but I prefer the red, only half that width.

Nice work! ;)

OOh I like the grey. Dunno why I like it better. Just appeals to me more.
