I just bought a 99 VX. I was concerned that the engine made a ticking noise. Of course the dealler poo-pooed it saying all Isuzu Trooper type engines made that noise.(although I doubt it).
Can someone tell me if the ticking valve lifter noise is common...and what would help quiet the noise down? Maybe Marvel Mystery Oil or STP?
ANy answers as to what is causing the noise? And how to eliminate the noise?
Thanks very much.

Being the former owner of a 95 Trooper bought new, I can tell you the old 3.2 SOHC was a noisey beast. I had it to the dealer with the same complaint at 50k and they said it was normal, but I had to replace the rocker shafts in that engine at 95k. The oil supply holes to the rocker shafts can be easily restricted by dirty oil. A can of BG MOA with each oil change will keep them clear. My 01 VehiCross is not the quietest either. The direct attack valve train seems to the culprit. I will be adding MOA to this one next oil change.
Bought mine with a bad trans front pump this past March, so I just recently solved that problem and began driving it.
The answer to your question would probably be, yes they are a little noisier than the average V-6. You didn't say how many miles were on yours, but you may want to consider a valve adjustment when it's timing belt time. I am.

What's the mileage? The factory valve adjustment interval is 60k miles.

Y3 gets the prize...I'm betting it's time to do the valves. Not as scary or difficult as it sounds. Probably not too pricey to have it done. Don't put it off.

Thanks for the confirmations on the noise and the recommended fixes. My car has 88K on it. I've done valve adjustments myself before so I guess this can't be any harder than previous adjustments.
What is BG MOA???
Thanks
