just curious.....is this DMV privilaged information?? is there a sneaky way of finding this kind of information out? do you post a vin on PIRATE 4X4, and let them figure it out:p LOL (those guys figure EVERYTHING out, including addresses, work schedules, ex girlfriends, last haircut, ...almost scary like) ive got some questions, but the previos might think i was stalking.

**did anyone ever hear the volkswagon commercial for the jetta where the guy calls the previous owner, and wants to hang out in the jetta, maybe get something to eat??? pretty funny**

anyway, the dealer working on my vx said that the cats are aftermarket, he thinks:rolleyes: and might not qualify for replacement, but ive noticed on my search for new cats that most have a warranty, and if they are aftermarket, that means that they went out on the previous owner BEFORE 40,000 miles.....

good luck on your quest.

after picking up my proton in modesto, ca., i was snooping around the glove box during my first fill-up and found a vet bill from (i assumed) was the previous owner.

it had her address on it - so i whipped up a letter when i got home and mailed it to her. the letter was a simple 'hello' and expression of how happy i was to have picked up a proton, etc. obviously asked her if she was/is a member of this site.

no answer to date.

I found a member of this site who owned mine previously but he only posted about 17 posts or something. Email was private, but I sent a PM and never got a reply. Would have been cool to ask him about if there were any hidden problems on this specific truck that he knew of.

Ok, so I figured out how to do the advanced search for the VIN... but, can somebody explain how the VINs work? I did a search for my '99 Astral and it matched to a girl in Texas with a 2000 Ironman! ??? what the ???

My 2 VX's: '01 0830, and '99 0757

Do the numbers represent the number within the year series?
IE: '99 year series, #0757 of 1000... (or whatever the run ended at)

Biju - Interesting. I found a vet bill in my glovebox too. Since the PO's wife bred some kind of pure breds it wasn't too suprising tho.

heh.. doing the popper kit install on Spike's VX we found the better part of a bag of dry dog food behind his rear passenger side panel.. at that point he had owned his vx for about 3 years.. ;puke:

Because the profile only uses the last 4 digits of the VIN, it is possible that someone else here would have the same last 4 digits as yours, but a different year. Presumably they began at 00001 at the start of each year's production.

Of course, the info is only as accurate as the persons who entered it felt like being. Try doing a search for VIN with "1234" or "0000" and see how many you get!:)
