Check Engine light on then off by itself...

I went to the beach last week and my VX had a surprise for me after 4 hours of driving on the highway. The "check engine" light came on. First thing I thought about was the gas cap. I checked it and it was tight already. I told myself that there was no way that you (the VX) will ruin my vacations... so I kept going and ignored it.
A couple of days after the same light went off by itself....???
No problem since then. Does anyone knows what could happened?

It could have been your gas cap, it only does measurements at certain levels of the gas tank (like evey 1/4 tank or so)
