View Full Version : The Joy of TOD...

Hi folks!

I'm not sure if this should go here or in the JDM section, but here goes...

My TOD lights are blinking, but having searched the forum they don't seem to be blinking in a way anyone's reported before. I also notice that the "Check" light for the TOD never appears - I suspect that the bulb has been pulled by the DPO to stop it irritating them.

Anyway, rather than a huge long explanation here's a little bit of video I shot last night to show what's up and what its doing:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JnW2jQnbfU

It is engaging and disengaging 4wd and there are no funny noises.

I have narrowed the diagnosis down to three possibilities - the alarm system that's been retro-fitted, a leaky vacuum hose Clicky! (http://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8223&highlight=tod+vacuum), or a dodgy sensor somewhere.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Cheers in advance,

Alan

i didn't see your speedometer move when you put into drive and rolled forward, maybe that has something to do with it like a plug has lost a good connection on the tranny or something.

Ah! The speedo did move, just very little. My speedo is calibrated to 180mph. The reason for this is that when it entered the country it had to be converted to display in mph not kph so they stuck a module on the back and then a sticker reading "mph" over the "kph". The original speedo read to 180kph...

The speedo works well and tallies fine with my gps.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Nice! Sounds like fun! When I was in London, you couldn't keep me away from Pret a Manger! I wish we had those over here!

Damn - it was working for 10 mins this morning...

I hate intermittent faults more than I hate constant ones. I thought I'd fixed a loose connection whilst I dis-assembled the dashboard yesterday :-(

edit: I;m still on about this. It may have worked this morning as I was playing with the aircon switches to help defrost the outside this morning. Just founf this thread on Planetisuzoo (http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=15035&highlight=vacuum+hose+tod) which may help.

Do any of you guys have a link to a manual for 3.2 litre troopers with TOD? I have the VX one, but your engine's different from mine!

Cheers again,

Alan

[QUOTE=alanbradley;113871]Hi folks!

Hi I also have a similar problem as you had. my TOD light flashes on 2wd position and the check light comes on. as soon as i put it on TOD or low 4wd it goes normal. Any ideas how you sorted yours out.
I have a 98 model 3.2L

Guys,

To my knowledge the rear wheel lights flash until they are engaged only. When going from 2wd to TOD the TOD lights flash until the front end is conncted, when going from TOD to 2wd the rear wheel lights flash until the fron end is disengaged. Somewhere along the line its either not disengaging the front end or it doesnt know it has (sensor etc)

its also been suggested that its to do with the wee blue box above the front axle (iirc). That came from The Northern Irish chap with the great videos on YouTube...

edit: Holy ancient threads Batman! This is one of my first posts from Dec 2007 when I first got the VX. I don;t notice the blinking any more tbh!
