View Full Version : Intake Camshaft align mark problem!
Does any one can telling me how to align the intake camshaft when I replace a new camshaft?
It is because there have many marks on the camshaft, so I don't know which mark is correct for align!
Please teach me a little bit, thanks
Could somebody post a link to the camshaft timing videos thread on page 9 of the past threads? I can't get it to work.:_wrench:

Here's the link, but it may not help much since these engines were redesigned in 1998.

Yeah, they're the same, but he has a 1996 VX or maybe a '97. The info given is for the new 1998 engines.

I don't think any of the info for the new '98 engines will help him.
The changes for '98 are, "valve train, cylinder head configuration, intake manifold configuration, timing belt covers, cylinder head cover, engine cooling, thermostat location, crankshaft configuration, oil pan design, piston design, and accessory belt length".
"The engine valve mechanism on both the 3.2L and 3.5L engines are distinctively different than previous model years equipped with dual overhead camshafts. Both the intake and the exhaust camshafts are driven by internal idler gears instead of a chain mechanism. The idler gear to camshaft gears are driven at a ratio of 1.333:1; therefore, it will require multiple turns of the idler gear to equal one full revolution of the camshaft gears. Also added is a spring loaded sub-gear assembly. This feature is added to take up back lash in the gears to help reduce gear whine."
Planet Isuzoo would probably be the best place for help on earlier engines.

Mark, by request, I copied the first post in your thread, "Timing Belt Replacement and Timing Videos" to the Tips and How to (http://www.vehicross.info/modules.php?name=Content) section to keep it in the front of other items.
The pics and vids are on this server as well.
Thanks for the good work and when you guys do such a great write up like this, put them in the other sections like the Tips and How to, and Reviews etc. rather than the regular forum. That way they stay out of the mix and not face a move to the archives. As a reminder, these sections are not for asking questions, they are more like articles that are to remain separate from regular posts.
