OK, so I was talking with Linda this weekend, and she said she would consider going to Moab again this year for our anniversay IF, Clint & Cari, and Beau & Megan come with! ;)
Honestly, I think it would be a blast if we could all go together. I know it is a long shot, but it would be about as fun as it gets.
Leave Reno Saturday, May10th, camp Saturday night at Great Basin National Park (awesome camping spots there), then carry on to Moab for Sunday.
So is this a possibility or a longshot?
Bart
PS - Any other west coast VXers who want to make the trek are welcome to join in as well.

Yes, I am hoping, because it would be too much fun. Also, a little teeny lift and a set of new rubber may be mandatory if this works out....

Find out where you guys are staying soon and make your reserves. I think I am going to try the Portal again, I would rather camp.

Well, Saturday night we will camp for sure, and probably on the way back as well. I wouldn't mind camping one night in Moab as well, that would be fun and cheaper.
I think I will start another thread about campsites/hotels, etc in Moab so I can figure out what to do. Since I will be staying the whole week this time, I don't think I can afford the super nice hotel I was in last year, but maybe I will do that for 2 nights and then camp the third night and then find a cheaper joint for the Thursday and Firday night...
Zeus, even though its outta the way, you should meet us at the Great Basin National Park Saturday! ;)

235 miles in the wrong direction is a bit too far for a detour. I thought about trailering my grill to Moab though for a few after-trail VXer BBQ's! :bgwo:

Yeah, I know. But I couldn't help through that out there.
Speaking of grills, I will have my Weber Baby-Q with me so feel free to bring some cheddar wurst! I am 100% down for some after Moab camping, grilling, feasting and hard core drinking!

This is going to be a good one I think!

Yeah, I may have to invest in a roof rack and extra rim for a full size spare... The planning begins

Yeah, a full size spare would be handy, but honestly, you could get away without it if you need to. There will be enough of us there that if something happens, we should be able to get you out. Either way, it wouldn't hurt. You should be able to find another stock rim on eBay or at least an Isuzu rim of the same size.
I just bought two military jerrycan holders and I have an idea for how I want to mount them to my roof rack. I have a few other minor, pre-Moab mods to complete and I *might* (depending on money) try to do a 1.5" lift before then.
Not sure yet, but I just got my time off approved!!

Also, a 16 x 7 jj rim from a Honda Passport has the same dimensions (offset etc.) as our stock wheel, though different outward appearance. I scored one at a local salvage yard & there WERE three more there. Lemme know if you want me to check.
Sorry for the OT, just throwin it out there.

Clint, this certainly might be a good way to go, then you just need a decent used tire of the same size and you are set!

Good info, I may be able to find one around here. I really want to invest in a new set of rims but I doubt I can before the trip.

Since the first time I went to Moab, I've never applied for a job without the understanding that I wouldn't be there for a good portion of the month of May.:naughty: Wether I have vaca. coming or not.:rotate:

The only prob now is money. The 1200 we have to pay in taxes doesnt help that line

Yeah, I hear ya. The only real expenses are gas and lodging. Figure gas for 1400 miles (that's round trip) plus a little more for Moab. Find a decent cheap hotel for a few nights and camp the rest and that should make it about as cheap as you can get. I'm gonna go this route myself because hotel expenses can really add up.
I want camp Great Basin one the way there and on the way back, and possibly camp 2 nights in Moab, leaving only 3-4 hotel nights. Linda is not as fond of camping as I am, but I guess the Portal campsite has hot showers and stuff, so hopefully she can deal. Honestly, I am almost as excited to camp as I am just be in Moab. Great Basin is a gorgeous park. Hopefully we can squeeze some trail hikes in. I can't wait.

How much camping gear do you guys have? Do you have a tent? Sleeping bags? Etc? I probably have some stuff I can lend you if you need anything, just let me know.
Anyway, all stuff we can talk about during our next meet up.
