ok, what you guys think? so i really would like to do this mod, like that rally proton JDM edition, but the one thing thats stopping me, is i'm not completly sold, and never will, so the only way i will end up doing this is by buying another VX hood, don't care about insert even though that would be awsome. So if any of you guys out there have or know where theres a spare Hood laying around of any color, black would be better but i don't care i'll just paint it or fake Carben Fiber it. So please let me know, thanks guys.http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/thumbs/037.JPG (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10426)http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/thumbs/0371.JPG (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10694)

I would just do it if I liked it. I don't think a black painted hood will affect the value at resale and many would like having one if looking (JMHO). Besides some hard cutting or fake geegaws (liks a super spoiler), there's not much that would affect the resale with the price the VX has fallen to.

I'd skip the carbon fiber stick on paper...it's just cheesy squared. Like putting flame decals all over it. As for painting it black, I'm with John...unless you paint it with a brush, it won't affect the value a bit. Matte or even flat would look great. If I get a second VX it will be repainted using a matte clear coat. Dragon green or black.

IMHO - I prefer the hood the way it is. I like the look of the contrast with the insert.

i love my hood right now, and thats why i don't want to paint this one, i want a second hood for that reason, so if i get tiered of it, i'll change it back, but yeah i understand what all you guys are saying, thanx for openions.

coastie, look at advance auto, they have a temporary duplicolor spray paint, you can paint your hood with it and see how you like it, then just to go the pressure washer and sponge and clean it right off

Coastie, so far, I love what you have done with your VX, but I will be honest here. I am not feeling the black hood with everything else you have going on. Now, that said, I think you should Photochop another photo with the whole hood AND insert painted black. I think that will give it a more "authentic" rally look.
Or better yet, what about a black hood, white painted insert?
Just some ideas.

eXactly.
If the WHOLE hood+insert matched perfectly with the cladding, you might be on to something.
But if your going to have 3 different shades of the same color happening, well...

Yeah, and thinking about it further, if you paint the hood black, you are probably going to need to paint your cladding black to get it to look right.
I think you need to make a point of coming to the Mammoth Lakes meet next month so we can take a look at your VX in person!

i'll try to be there, if the Uncle Sam lets me, but yeah thats what i planned on doing, i was going to paint the hood the same color as the insert, the insert is a semi gloss black, it's just that photo shop makes it look more blake then really is, and also the photo has shading, water and dert on it and so on, i did that photo shop in my windows paint thingy, so it kinda sucked. also the cladding is getting painted semi-gloss or flat black aswell. just taking things slow with the small amount of cash i already get from Uncle Sam.

If anybody could pull it off you could. I have been debating polishing my insert or painting to match the body. Either way I am taking that thing off to modify it somehow.
