front/rear axle fluid change

I see a write-up about the tranny fluid on this site but I don't see one for the axle fluid change. Is this a roughly similar operation? I read in the owner's manual about what types of fluid/additive we're supposed to use, anyone have any recommendations on what they have good experience with?

The drain plug on the rear is pretty straight forward, just drain (after a few miles of warm up) & re-fill.
The front is drained through the lower most bolt holding the third member into the diff housing. It'll probably be a bit clogged, so have a wire coat hanger available.
