skid plates

what do the skid plates look like ..I was at a junk yard and found some plates from diff. rigs ..what do the plates look like and were do they go ...I got one to cover the transfercase...it looks good..but i want better coverage

just check inside the drivers side door jamb of each vehicle.. you are looking for a date of like nov 92 or later (93-00 i believe) on a trooper (not a trooper II) also could find an acura SLX.. the number of doors on the vehicle dont matter

IMO, the one nearest the right front tire doesn't offer much protection, in my experience, it offers only frustration.
My first Zoo, I managed to "make contact" with a rock on that one & it collapsed. Which caused it to "make contact" with the allen head bolts that connect the front output shaft from the transfer case.
The metallic snapping/grinding noise produced by said contact gets your attention real quick, and you soon find yourself in the red dirt turning wrenches.:sighwgray

edit.. btw that jack stand is NOT holding anything up.. especially by the bolt

Yep, that's it...and IIRC, I cut a good size chunk out of that area with the mini grinder to provide clearance, and that just allowed it to collapse further.
Anyone wants it, I'll bring it to Moab & it's yours for ten bucks.:smilewink
BUT...you'll have to bend it back into shape until the mounting holes line up.:_wrench:

I'm not sure if I did the right thing or not, BUT, I had a local welder cut the lower hanging section off and weld in a plate up higher...net result...it now hangs no lower than the other plates/crossmember. He charged me $70. I'm still concerned with what you guys have experienced though.

theyre 14 mm.. i needed a long flathead screwdriver because one of the nuts inside the cross member had come loose and was just spinning, i had to wedge a screwdriver in there to get the bolt out

Ok, understand, only from the 93 to 2000 trooper, but was this a option or standard item on the troopers?

i think they were standard.. most every trooper i have seen has had them
