Not sure if this ties the record or comes up one short but that's a fantastic turnout. They are on the "no trail trail" with Todd Adams giving them more information on their surroundings AND four wheelin' than you will ever get from any other trail leader. He gets lost sometimes but it is only for few minutes and the 'lost' part is always fun anyway.

I see jackets! Cool weather this year? Must be the same winter storm that kept Tucson temps below 80 and brought flagstaff some snow. Tone are you in Moab?...didn't know you were going this year.
So, did you guys just go straight out to Gemini Bridges or did Todd take a special route?

I was too tired to give any details about the pix I posted last night. I literally collapsed after I posted the last pix. I pulled in to Moab just in the nick of time yesterday. It was incredible, just as I entered Moab a hug line of VXs came down the road. I was shocked, it was like seeing a 65 mph VX parade. I flipped around and joined the line. We had a lot of fun, we went to a lot of cool places. I wish I could of staid.:(

Billy,

I don't think anyone is posting yet because we've all been so tired.
Yes, this year has been a little chilly. It rained on Monday day and Monday evening and the temperature got down into the lower 40's Monday night. Tuesday was partly cloudy and WINDY. The wind was brutal so most of us where in jeans and jackets. The wind died down as the day went on, but it really didn't get that warm. I think the high was in the upper 60's. With 20 VX's, a Trooper and an FJ we didn't get back to camp until late, and we headed right to Todd's BBQ so there wasn't much time to post that day.

Wednesday morning started early. A few of us did Seven Mile Rim, a few others did Poison Spider, and others did Hell's Revenge. The same tub that claimed Ldub last year claimed one of Zues' tie rods this year. I saw him driving around town a little while ago, so he must have gotten in fixed (at least temporarily). Last night was diner with most of us at Fiesta Mexicana, then the party moved back to the parking lot of Red Rock Inn. After a couple of margarita's and some serious peer pressure, Ldub and Jay Dunford ended up lifting my VX in the parking lot (I bought a set of 912's from dub). I have pictures and I will post them when I get back home.

Today (Thursday) our numbers dwindled as a few people left town last night and this morning. One group (led by Todd) went to do Fins and Things, a second group (led by Big Swede) headed out to do Metal Masher, and a third group headed out to a canyon (that I can't remember the name of) for some wheelin' and sight seeing.

So far it's been a great trip and unfortunately I have to leave today to head to Vegas (Awwww....tough life). Our numbers continue to dwindle, but the hard core VXers will be here until the weekend. There is talk of a group doing Poison Spider tomorrow. I'm sure once everyone gets home there will be a TON of pictures posted up so you'll get a good feel of what has been going on out here.

It was great (as always) to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Start planning for next year so we can get even MORE VX's out here and meet even more of the family.

Hope all is well back in civilization.

Signing out from Moab....

Thanks for the update!
Sounds like ideal wheelin' weather...definately beats 95 when you want to have your windows down to hear your spotter!
Sounds like that tub has it out for VX's. We will have to tame it!
When on the trail you're going to love the extra clearance from the lift. You will notice just a little more lean in the corners...but nothing to drastic.
I'll keep checking back for that "ton" of pictures!

Thanks for posting the pictures... it is minimal solace for not being there, but is better than nothing. since I roached my back on Monday, and am not in Moab.

The combination of Hydrocodone/Tramadol they gave me takes the edge off the pain but makes it a poor idea to drive, though I gave long consideration to pulling the driver's seat out of the Dodge and rigging up some sort of tilted litter -- all I really need to drive is one foot and one hand at the wheel, right?

It is pretty miserable to sit or drive, but I can rotate between standing and laying on my stomach here at work. :nogray: I'm getting some pretty entertaining comments from my cubemates. :rolly2: The drugs are grand, but they've done bad things for my productivity -- where I used to be able to teleconference and email 3-4 things at a time, I'm having difficulty paying attention to one thing at a time now.

I'd honestly be more upset about this if I weren't so well-medicated. As it is, my 30-minute commute to work is about as far as I can travel without getting out to stretch.

It is frustrating that I had the Amigo and Dodge ready to roll, but I guess there will have to be other trips at other times. Bigfoot got his *** kicked by Lowerback.

I hope everyone is having fun in Moab... I wish I was!

Randii, sorry to hear you had to join the disaster club and miss Moab. Hope to see you there next year. My VX should be out of the shop, repaired and ready to wheel in about 3-5 days. They claim to be ahead of schedule!
I feel for you on the back. I have a sciatic nerve that acts up every now and then and I'm sure it's no where as bad as yours. Make sure to rest it and do those rehab exercies when you get to that point. They make a difference down the road.
Now back to the show!

My camera sucks so I will have to clean up the pics before I post them. Bart and company took over 500 pics on Tuesday and another 500+ pics on Wednesday! There are some long videos taken from atop his roof rack that are entertaining. He has a lot of editing and clean up to do. I didn't take near as many pics as usual but will post when I can. It sucks to be back at work... the day just ticks by.

For the record... when Todd says to respect Gooneybird and don't drive over his feet or else pay the consequences... listen to him. Dumke and I both suffered some mechanical issues after disrespecting the rock bird.

Zeus, what do you think caused your tie rod to break? The tub didn't look like it would have put to much pressure on it.
I was actually going to start a thread about that - in short, it seems to be a bad idea to disconnect the sway bar on just one side. It needs to be disconnected on both sides and secured in a high position that clears the tires at full steer. The disonnected side of the sway bar seems to have made contact with the tie rod a few times during the attempted climbs (5 attempts before getting out cuz the tires were freshly wet - and remember I am running completely open diffs). I was kind of bouncing a bit mid-climb; so it seems like it bent the rod, weakened it, and it finally broke when I steered hard left after getting out. Luckily, it bent AFTER I got out of the tub!!! There is VIDEO! :) Clint (CrnCnn) gave me a ride out and to M4O so I could get the tie rod sleeved back together. Bart and Scott Harness were kind enough to truck me back in to the tubs so I could put my VX back together. Linda (Bart's wife), Carrie (sp? - Mrs. CrnCnn), and Megan (Mrs. Ascinder) volunteered to watch my dog during the second trip. And LDUB of course had an extra tie rod for me to use - I only used one castle nut. Thanks guys and gals! I still owe you a couple beers, and Beau $20... Bring on the Elko trip!!!!

hey billy, sorry we havent posted more, im sure they are still to come...

i just got home from moab about 15 minutes ago...it was a long week....
so here's the wrap up for me personally..

monday- gold bar rim and gemini bridges

tuesday- seven mile

wednesday- steel bender (barely)(more story to come)

thursday- poison spider

friday- cant remember lol

saturday- klondike bluffs and hells revenge

so here's the real story for me for the week-
on steel bender there is an obstacle called the wall thats about a 5 foot drop off with a sort of bypass thats really tippy....so i dont have skid plates so i opted for the tippy side since i didnt wanna mess up my oil pan or anything like like...

anyhow, i was the guinea pig for the tippy part of the obstacle since i was the first vehicle besides the trail leader to try it....

aparently we picked the wrong line because i ended up sliding sideways off a rock and going up on 2 tires on my way to rolling over...
luckily i wasnt hung over because i let off the brake and steered into the obstacle saving my VX, myself and larry gammon...
once jo gets a chance to load his photo's up then you will be able to see the situation...
it would have been the first serious VX accident in moab hadn't i steered into it and bounced my way out of rolling over.....

everyone doing steel bender that day was shaking for hours afterward because everyone had almost just witnessed a big roll over next to a tall cliff.....

jo has a great photo of my VX with the rear tire about 6 and a half feet off the ground because he snapped perfectly right when i started to roll....

anyhow, thats my story of the week...

Ah, PB! You should have checked the pics/video from 06. Then you would have known to take the wall. The way the wall drops off is no differant from the wall on Gold Bar Rim. No need to worry about your pan...unless all your wheels fell off in the middle of it! The other way you went is WAY tippy. A few went that way in 06 and in the vid you can see us literally hanging from the rear end of the VXs to keep them from going over. With your lift you would have had no problem.
Right way...

Has anyone heard how Jeff (Paddler on the other Zu boards) is doing? Apparently, while doing trail repairs, the vehicle fell on him and he had to be air lifted off the trail to the hospital.

I should not have logged on tonight - that simple log-on took about an hour out of my production tonight. Great pics Bart! Love the commentary. I, of course, am at work - started 15 hours ago. This site is my only link to happiness. BTW, there was a shooting by my house tonight! No, it wasn't me...

Wow dude, that sucks. If it makes you feel any better, Linda was working until like 7:30 tonight...ahem, I can't say the same for myself, however.

We definitely need to do the Elko camping trip meet. Glad we got to hang out a lot more this time around.

Here are my 2 cents.. Me and my friend have been pretty egoistic pictures-wise (as well as on the trail, always forgetting to care of the car behind us - sorry, promise to learn!)
Made it home successfully, 25 hours on non-stop driving of which I did 20, no problems at all and zero oil burn

Anyway, here are my nominees for the next year's calendar!
p.s. Personal thank you to Crager34 for recommending me that 4x4 trail in Needles district - perfect difficulty for a rookie such as myself, and a terrific view in the end!!

That's the funniest "happenstance" pic I've seen in a while.

And if you weren't actually holding your wiener, I probably was...that was the scariest off-road moment I've witnessed in quite some time, maybe ever.

With gas the way it is.....I wonder if a Honda Insight can tow a VX?????

One request other than keep the pictures comming......
For us that did not make it it would be nice to know who is who and whos VX whos.... Just a thought.

However I got the fever and did some Indiana off roading last week. I travled on the remains of some old rail road tracks that have been removed since briefly after WWII (due to my area was the number one supplier of gun power and missles during WWII). It was an awesome time I already live out in the country but I did not see a person or house in MILES. But the trip ended short my friend who thinks he can keep up with me in his limited explorer tore a seal of some sort (don't know what to call it). Its where the front drive shaft enters the transfer case?

Yeah, my sleep schedule is all messed up. We are both back in Chi-Town, and missing the warm weather. I did get a replacement tire (sidewall puncture on Poison Spider) at the 4Wheel Parts store in Denver, and ended up staying an extra day to be social at my cousin's. There was some amazement at the 4 Wheel Parts store that the VehiCROSS did all the trails listed on my window... too funny. I had a GREAT time, and can't wait until next year!!! Maybe this will make it easier to load the pictures for that album we are creating. If you would like the full size of any of the images just let me know and I will email you the full size picture... though I think they are pretty big already.

Whatchoo talkin' bout Willis...
I've been wearing Ugg boots since the early 90's (though not in the desert), they're great!
Just cause guys aren't wearing them in "style central" (indiana), doesn't make it wrong in the rest of the world.
There are many different styles & customs outside indiana...no really, I'm serial.:rotate:
You apperently have an internet connection, use it to see what else is out there.
You might be pleasntly surprised...or even MORE disturbed. :smilewink

I guess I'll take "wierd" (sic!)

Then I'd be in the company of :-

WW1 & 2 Pilots , bomber bay "dudes' and front & rear gunners that used them to keep their tootsies warm.

Australian Sheep shearing "dudes" , to battle the cold nights on the outback stations.

60's surfers 'dudes' that popularized the use of Uggs as warm apres surf wear

90% of the Americas Cup racing crew 'dudes' in Freemantle Australia in mid 80's ( where I first became a "user" ! )

First time Moaber 'dude' that had warm toes till the sun heated things up....

...anon.

Ya I'm weird...and I guess "wierd" , whatever that means :p

Thanks for the grammatical correction - do we have a literature professor in here?

Not only do I have the internet I also have this invention called a television that portrays numerous walks of life. Thus far in my viewing career I have yet to see such a thing. Furthermore I do travel and have always traveled and have yet to personally see it as well.

No big deal at all. I had just wished it was for comical purposes only. I would not be caught dead in them. The end....

Now back to MOAB pictures.

JHarriss,
Now, I'm just curious why you would insult someone you don't know, and then get upset when they correct your spelling? My guess is you are not secure in who you are. You only feel better about yourself when you tear someone else down to prop yourself up. Now, I don't know you, but I do know JoFotoz, and I would say he's pretty darn secure in himself. You, my friend, could learn a few things if you don't judge someone because they are not like you.
Peace.
Tom

BTW-you can check your spelling on the internet when you're looking through your travel sites. :)
Now, let's get back to the Moab pictures.:)

So this begs the question are we going to have a UGG only run? If so then I need to go get some myself.

Also Jo man that had to be killer if they keep the toe's warm in that heat. I would been like eee gad.

This is hilarious. Its just a shame everyone on this forum can't meet everyone else at least once. Its so nice to know people personally. It makes being a regular on this forum that much more rewarding...and that much more frustrating. I would love to hang out with everyone more often than once a year. :(

Well, Japan is something both me and the Mrs. have longed to do for many, many years, and with the apocalypse right around the corner, I figure its high time we go. Don't write me off, but right now its just way to early think about 12 months from now....I think the max "thinking ahead" for me is about 60 days. Anything longer than that gives me a headache. :)

Japan is expensive. Try and find a good tour package, it will save you a lot of money. Bart I know you’re a big bladerunner fan, you need to try and swing by Hong Kong. It’s unbelievable.

Yeah, we will probably do Japan first, and then maybe Hong Kong and Beijing next. I would also like to check out Seoul. The money issue is the whole reason we haven't gone to Japan yet....and oh yeah, that pesky language barrier.

"I" before "E" except after "C", or when it sounds like "A" such as in neighbor and weigh. Except "weird" which is weird.

Any word. Type the first three letters, then hit F7. Does wonders.
