I have sporadically played some 360 whenever I could at my old roommate's place.
And my other friend recently, finally got one as well. I'm very impressed at he games/gameplay, and so now it's about time for me to catch up with the times and put out for the current console.
Only thing, even though I've never played one, I'm somewhat leaning towards a ps3.
Must have something to do with the
80g/new dual shock controller/metal gear 4 bundle coming out this month.
I also just think it looks better, and it has the blu-ray to boot. Plus, my old roommate went through 3 360s.
I also figure the free online play will get a lot of attention, and if there are any exclusive Xbox games I need to play, I'll just let my friends get them. I dunno, then I couldn't borrow from them though...
I've read reviews, watched videos of gameplay on Youtube, IGN, etc. and read the VG threads here on the forum.
I'm still just a coin-toss away from either system.
Just looking for any more volunteered advice from my "pals" here.
P.S. I will NOT be getting a Wii so don't try to convince me!

PS3 all the way bro, if you are looking for more realism with game plots and graphics then go PS3, if you are looking for smooth cartoony graphics and plots go 360, I just think PS3 may not offer the amount of games the xbox can right now, but they make it up in cuality and perfomance. PS3 better product, sony, free online, b-ray, and may other things. Xbox is not free online, breaks down all the time, made by Microsoft and the means viruses and hackers. thats just my opinion, go PS3 Bro, :) .

have the wii... its fun.. got old fast though.. got mario kart and played it for like a week.. before that hadnt touched it in probably 2-3 months.. good for parties
just bought a ps3.. should be arriving in the next day or two will update when i get it.. but i am pumped about being able to play blu ray.. also looking forward to playing gran tourismo 5

PS3 all the way!!!!! I am so glad I do not have to sift through so many terrible games like 360 owners. PS3 has just enough quality games to keep you busy more than you could ever need. 1080p through the HDMI Dolby EX for video games and Blu Ray!!!!! What a deal! And netFlix is sending out BluRay's now. I get about 8 BluRay's in the mail a month for $9 a month fee through them. PS3.

Guess witch system I play games on.
The only problem is a good gaming PC will run you about $1500 and that’s just the pc. The one you see hear I built myself and it cost $2200. The mame box is for when I want to go retro and it cost almost nothing.

See, that's what has me leaning in Sony's direction--I'm also in the market for a DVD player, and I don't really need Blu-Ray, but since it's got it...
And pretty much any game I'm interested in for Xbox is available for ps3 as well.

LOL!!! Guilty as charged. I actually have a 360 I like to play games like Fight Night Round 3 and racing games but for FPSs and MMOs and RTSs. Nothing compares to a PC and 1080p and DTS-HD 7.1 is not a problem.

as someone who also owns all three, I would say the 360 at the moment, unless you REALLY love metal gear.
and I'm the guy who refused to buy the first xBox.
There is a HUGE library of very good games already for the 360. The online community is so much more refined since it's paid, and the quality of the online arcade games is great and handled very well.
Now, in favor of the PS3, I LOVE watching bluray movies on my 1080p set. I LOVE playing ninja gaiden, uncharted, and a few other sorted games. I'll definitely be getting metal gear and a few other 1st party titles that are planned this year. I also love how quiet it is compared to my 360.
I find that when i try to play online with many games on the PS3 that most people aren't using headsets and thats annoying when playing a team based game such as COD4 or Vegas or something.
I would say if you are into hard core multiplayer and want as many good games as possible at the moment go with the 360. The exclusives at the moment are many, and of great quality.
If you want the multimedia capabilities of bluray and few REALLY good single player games (exclusives) and amazing build quality go with the ps3. the drive is also VERY easy to swap out for a regular laptop drive on the PS3 where the 360 forces you into their drive for stupid money. (only important really if you plan on putting lots of media on the console.
This is only discussing first party/exclusive titles, obviously there are many titles that are available on both.
I agree that I love the first party titles for my wii, and i use it for playing retro titles, but my 360 and PS3 see much more one on one action.
Good luck!

Im a ps3 guy. love it and never turning back. Counting down the days for MGS!!! Plus BD is great! The free online gameplay is a plus, and the PS Store will be coming out with the movies soon(fingers crossed). PS Home looks pretty sweet, but has been delayed since last year... all in all still a great home entertainment system. What i love about it the most is being able to stream my anime fansubs and recorded tv shows wirelessly to the ps3 and watch it on the hdtv.... for those that are worried about hdd space, there are simple mods to attach a sata 3.5 to replace the 40,60,80gb 2.5 drives...
As for the Wii, its fun, but i cant imagine just sitting there playing a game as i would the ps3 or 360, I would have to have several friends over or a party/bbq to actually have some fun on it...
If i want to play 360 i just go to my friends crib.

All I have to say, is that this whole discusson really depends on what type of games you like to play. Personally, I really don't like 3rd person type games (like MGS and even GTA to a certain extent). I am a PC gamer, first person shooter lover all the way. HL and CS are the greatest games of all time. For me, the console died when the old school platform games went away. That said, for console, driving and fighting games are all I can really get into. I've been playing Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection and I am loving it. I have been forcing myself to like GTA4, but that won't stop me from saying the controls and game play make me supereffingaggrevated. Why didn't they just make it first person or at least have a first person toggle with the ability to attach a keyboard and mouse? (Speaking of, can you attach a keyboard and mouse to the USB port on the PS3????).
The real problem I have with PC gaming is all the hacking, and all the handicaps (someone with a $15,000 PC vs someone with a $1500 PC). They NEED to make a console that you can go online with, and that works flawlessly with a keyboard and mouse, so FPS games can break through into the console realm, and level the playing field. I really don't understand how ANYONE can play a game like COD4 with a freaking joystick.

My wife really wants a wii. We already have a 360 and I am wondering if buying another system is actually going to keep her interest. For those with a wii is the novelty of the system keeping you playing or does the interest die off pretty quickly? Also, anyone have wii fit and have an opinion? We have Yourself! Fitness and I've actually used it and like the way they build a custom routine for you everytime. Just curious how they compare if anyone has both.

You know, this morning I was thinking about what I said about 3rd person games, and I honestly have to take a step back and make mention of both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Both of those games went down in history as classics for me, especially Ico. I really can't wait to see what that company has in store for Shadow II.

I pulled my old A1200 out of the closet to sell on ebay, and as a test fired up some of the games. There were some good ones out there (my &%$# Lemming disk is damaged, though!), but wow, does it look dated.
Incidently, the 1200 sold for quite a bit! I was suprised!

Reconsider that. Seriously. If nothing else, get Portal. It is relatively short and all kinds of fun.
For what it is worth, my 4-year degree took six years. I blame Doom, X-com, Rise of the Triad, Quake 2, and Command and Conquer.

Oh, I will have to watch this when I get home. I don't get it either. There are all these people who think that the ability to use a mouse and keyboard on a console would give other people some sort of "disadvantage" and that it would take away the "console" in console gaming. Too me, its just stupid that I can't use a mouse and keyboard with the PS3. I would actually play A TON more games if I could. FPS and joysticks DO NOT MIX. I would love to play COD4 but not with a joystick. No thanks.

I could not care less about which is "better"... I have always been a console gamer. The few PC games I have played were Diablo, and old games like Space Quest. I hate keyboards, and have never been able to use a mouse and keyboard at the same time very well.
My favorite thing about the argument is when they spell "own" like "pwn". I wonder if they know how stupid they look misspelling it like that (they are not even saving letters or anything). It is like the nutjob people wearing the blinking headsets and talking to themselves like homeless escapees from the psyche ward.

I think, objectively, most will understand the 360 is a better gaming console, and most multplatform games the 360 outsells because of, among other things, the multiplayer support is better. Way back when Idisliked the "for pay" online model. But comparing it to PSN, it's really no contest. XBox live >>>> PSN. Games plaing right now include the immeasurably awesome Uncharted3 (PS3), Brutal Legend (multiplatform--but bought for 360), and I picked up Red Faction Guerilla for the PC for cheap (and it connects and gives me XBox Live achievement points!).
But this entire argument as of right now ends with one title:
FORZA3
I have played it more than slept in the last two days. If you even have an inkling of like for cars at all...it's gaming nirvana. It'll accomodate sim racers (yes, I have a cockpit and working clutch pedal at home) all the way to arcade racers and twitch gamers. It scales.

Most PS3s aren't backwards compatable, you have to find a PS3 from the release date era- i.e the 20GB or 60GB (as seen in Ldubs handy chart). They removed it because the original price on PS3s was way too high for most consumers and they were looking for ways to sell the unit cheaper. I heard the PS1/PS2 games dont convert very well on the PS3. All PS3s will upconvert as a DVD player
I just bought the 120GB PS3 to replace my third broken Xbox. I luv it
The only problem I've had with backward compatibility on mine is trying to transfer data from PS1 memory cards, everything else works great...
On the funny side of the topic, this made me laugh...

Dub,
It's super easy to install the drives... There are tons of guides online, but essentially it's plug and play minus the bit the system has to do to install for the drivers and such.
Any 2.5" drive should work. I've got a 250GB in mine now and I was just planning on installing a 500GB myself.
Hope that helps.
Also, if any of you haven't picked up Uncharted 2 it's quite possibly one of the best games I"ve ever played. The acting and voicework alone is better than anything I've seen in gaming. The gameplay and plot is great.
Also, also, Borderlands is friggin tight.

Oh I meant Uncharted 2, not "uncharted3" as I wrote previously. It really sets the standard for cinemativ single player gaming. First time I've seen where the acting was NOT tacked on at the last minute; usually in gaming it's some actor that reads his lines in a sound booth after the game's complete (some highly recognizable ones that phone it in). It's refreshing to see acting taken on at the same level as a mvie is--it's PART of the gamemaking process. It's like how pixar does its films, as opposed to jap animation where some dude reads his lines after animators with no acting experience do their work. It's really, really revolutionary. Uncharted2's written well too! And the gameplay, though the aiming's not as tight as some 3d person shooters, is really fun and polished. The whole game echoes attention to detail. astounding. Nitpicks stoundout for me simply because its soo close to movie level quality (ie. relatiely low res textures justaposed with high number of objects. it wouldnt even be noticble in other games to me, but its soo close to a movie i can't help but think of lesser games with more higher res textures. and jerky animation thats obviously mocapped is only a nitppick in this game for me because its soo close...)
Like hollywood, it seems theres an oscar season. SOme really, realy good games are out now. Batman Arkham Asylum I highly, highly reccomend too. The gameplay (fight mechanics, esp) is perfect. AND FORZA3!!!! again, I've slept less in the nights since its release on tuesday than i have played. It is beyond other racing sims for me (hyerbole, i know, but its true). GT5 has its work cut out for it. If you like cars at all, you owe yourself an xbox360 for the game alone.

I had 3 different PS3s, all junk, blu ray drives failed, Sony does nothing for you. My 1st gen 360 failed after a few years, xbox fixed it for free and gave me one year xbox live for free as well. Sony does not help you beyond the warranty, nor do they offer any compensation.
The PS3 overall is far from being as good as it should be. Considering it had over 1 year to make improvements over the XBOX360. The controller is junk, no removeable battery pack, and it has to be plugged in to charge...and IT DOES NOT TURN ITSELF OFF!!!! If you are using the PS3 Blu ray drive to watch a movie, gotta remember to turn off the controller, or buy their stupid DVD remote.
The OS on PS3 is a joke, it is the same non-user friendly POS that the PSP uses. Granted it is free, as compared to XBOX live, but I can watch netflix via my xbox, stream all the videos/music/photos that are on my computers with one click, very user friendly and intuitive, even my wife can do it;)
I traded my PS3 for another 360, and have never looked back since.

Funny, I completely disagree. IMO, the XBOX 360 is the poorest made console of all time. The only reason microsoft has an extended warranty is because they would have been sued by all the angry owners of broken xbox 360s. A 33% fail rate is horrible, the PS3 & Wii are way below that.
I was amazed how quiet the PS3 is compared to the xbox. The xbox has a big problem with cooling and causes the fans to run on high constantly. I owned three xboxs and they all broke including one that broke twice after it was fixed by microsoft. I eventually learned how microsoft fixes them and discovered how cheaply they were made.
With that said...as a gaming console its awesome and has great games. I need to get my last one fixed for the multiplayer games and the exclusives but I will stick with the PS3 mainly because it actually works when I want to play something. MY 2 cents
The only reason why I care about any of this is because I wasted alot money on consoles with no improvement in quality after microsoft acknowledged the problems.

Oh geez, I know I just got done gushing about Forza3. But I just got DIRT2 in the mail. Holy, molee..! My favorite new arcade racer. KNocked Burnout Paradise outta the running. It feels real...now mind you, I've never driven this fast on dirt in real life, but it seems more believable than any other rally game I've played (admittedly, I'm not a fan of the genre). And the presentation is prolly the greatest in any car game, imho. Really gets your adrenaline up. So far, Dirt2 has rallycross, rally, and baja racing. I dont know yet what else it has, but those 3 alone feel like separate games.
I sound like I'm getting paid to shill on the site, huh? sorry, again, it must be time of year; some really, really great AAA games this time of year before Christmas. This year seems like a record breaking one.
I just did my first Baja type race. Man, I would freaking die of awesomeness if they had a VX in this! Dave Mirra drove a Mitsu Racing lancer in my first baja race (yeah, shows you how much I know, I thought he rode BMXes...I've been living under a rock, because I didn't know there was American rallyracing; I hear XGames and I think BMX, skateboards, energy drinks and eXXXXxtreme 18 year olds...). I'm gonna buy one in game and pretend its a Vehicross... either that or an HX. :)

And BTW, I never heard of a Mitsubishi Racing Lancer (must be that rock I'm under again). But after seeing it in game I googled it and it looks to be an awesome lil truck. Reminds me of the VX a lot. ANyone hear of it? And, I wonder how the VX would fare on a same course?

Every once in a while I get out my nintendo and play Zelda on it and listen to my TEAC reel to reel tape player. I understand you can get some really good graphics on a super nintendo, but I can't see the advantage if you've only got a black and white TV. My TV is so old I'm still getting original episodes of "Leave it to Beaver" and "The Andy Griffin show". Been thinkin about trying to play "Call to Duty", but i don't know if they have it for my Nintendo.

i can't belive nobody has metioned "home" for ps3. great online community that uses an actual virtual world, not just texting like myspace and facebook. you actually create a caracter that looks like you and you can walk around and talk to people (wether its to just chat, or get people together for and online game). just check this out you'll c what i mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyquAXKeEI0 my roomate has a 360 and after i bought my ps3, despite how many titles the 360 has (including fable) he wants to get rid of it and get a ps3. also you cant forget, if you have the "eye" you can have live video chats with other people, which is nice if you want to c them and not just hear them like with a phone (say a realative that lives a ways away, or a sick friend that you don't want to visit - did it). oh, and lastly, the selling point - GOW3 in march. by the way. if you have a ps3 and love fps games - check out "army of two" - badass, got my copy for $10 at a pawn shop. good old fashioned cheap kickass fun on a disc. remember as well, there aren't too many titles ps3 has under its belt now, but look at how many there were for the previous 2 generations. ps3 has not even come close to reaching its peak. it is still in its infancy, a baby that hasn't learned to crawl yet. i see great things in its future.

Yeah, I love my 360, but hands down, no bull**** it's the biggest piece of crap on earth. I've been through two and EVERY SINGLE friend I have that bought theirs pre 2009 has had the RROD and had to send it in. Only one of them has had to send in their PS3 and sony paid for it completely. Microsoft did as well, but it's just that fact that so many of them die. Not to mention that it's still the most capable blu ray system out there.
The 360 also sounds like a jetplane taking off, whereas I barely hear my PS3 at all.
I mean, there are a lot of merits to argue on, but the entire internet would tell you that the 360 is crap build-quality.

Oooh, I loved burnout, but I didn't have many friends who played it.
Also, try DIRT2, GRID, Forza, and Project Gotham if you are into racing games. The Forza games are slightly more simulation whereas the others are varying levels of arcade/sim mixed.
I'm really into GRID and DIRT at the moment.
