I took a spin down to the pub tonight...
...and got upstaged by this :eek:

Its real beat up...but looks SO COOL driving up the road towards you!!
I guess they are doing a PR tour...fun to see it 'live'.

Interesting - first photo I've seen with the stabalizer grapples extended. Very "Beyond Thunder Dome"

I still say that in a tornado, a 200 year old wooden barn would fare better than that.... thing. :bgwb:
Never trust a shadetree welder. I saw some of the welds on that thing when they showed a Discovery special about it. I almost fell out of my chair. :eek:

Storm chaser - I saw it drive into a tornado on some special. Held up pretty well.

Check Discovery channel for "storm chasers"
This "thing" drives into the tornado...and "IMAX" films it !
Not pretty...but seems to hold up ok.
Still cant figure out why it was in San Diego.....:eek:

lol, both vehicles weigh the same.
If I saw that chaser in my area I think I would start to worry.
They built it on a ford truck if I remember right.
I was addicted to that first season.

I also saw the tv special and they had to select a particular "size" tornado in that it couldn't be too big, strong, powerful, etc. as it was anticipated that a larger funnel (ie. f4, f5) would inflict too much damage.
