Interesting - first photo I've seen with the stabalizer grapples extended. Very "Beyond Thunder Dome"

I still say that in a tornado, a 200 year old wooden barn would fare better than that.... thing. :bgwb:

Never trust a shadetree welder. I saw some of the welds on that thing when they showed a Discovery special about it. I almost fell out of my chair.

And just what the hell is that thing? Are you saying there is a Tornado under all that sheet metal?

Check Discovery channel for "storm chasers"

This "thing" drives into the tornado...and "IMAX" films it !

Not pretty...but seems to hold up ok.

Still cant figure out why it was in San Diego.....

lol, both vehicles weigh the same.

If I saw that chaser in my area I think I would start to worry.

They built it on a ford truck if I remember right.
I was addicted to that first season.

I also saw the tv special and they had to select a particular "size" tornado in that it couldn't be too big, strong, powerful, etc. as it was anticipated that a larger funnel (ie. f4, f5) would inflict too much damage.
