So I was inspecting the VX the other day and noticed my bumper tube ( reinforcement tube ) is rusted almost in half. It looks like a brush guard but its under the plastic bumper...I think that is what it is...it looks like a metal tube about the size of an exhaust tube as well but its not hot or seemingly a tube for any thing.
My question is...how difficult is it going to be to find another and where do i start? I have the part #'s I think if it's on this diagram I printed.
I have a friend who is a mechanic but I am not. I am no moron and I can follow directions but, just never had a car I cared to work on. SO....can I do this or should I just leave it be? It seems like a fender bender could REALLY mess it up with that week pipe there huh?
Is it gonna be impossible to find a replacement?

thanks for any help,

frog

I myself haven't bought one of these, but for the cost I wouldn't be scared to give it a go. I'm in Central Illinois and shipping cost for me is $35. Still a good deal...Good Luck

http://www.iautobodyparts.com/isuzu/vehicross.html"remanufactured" and "Availability: Unknown. Order to locate one!"
In other words -- "...if you ask us, we will try to find one in a junkyard, clean it up, and send it to you for more money that it is worth."

I had a similar issue - there was a LOT of front end clunking and I was blaming the suspension which needed an overhaul and new bushes (now mostly carried out and boy has it made a difference to handling and noise) but I was discussing mounting a brushbar on the front end with a friend and reached through the plastic with the words "and of course there's this bar here... which seems to be loose... oh hell, I don't think that's right..."

Some disassembly later and it turned out that the bar had rusted through where it joins the mounts at both sides.

No bother though... Thanks to the wonder of e-bay I located one for sale in the US but would he post to the UK? Not even if I hgave him an extra $30 over and above the price on his Buy-it-now plus the increased postage? Would he hell :(

Never mind, I have my friendly local metal fabricator all poised to make a beautiful set of rocksliders and an external brushbar and light mount (pics to come just after I've had a chance to put the car in to get it fab'd up and fitted...

King Frog,

My bumper bar is a little rusty too, but I was just thinking of taking it off, having it sandblasted, and then powder coated (or painted). That should take care of it. Could that be an option instead of buying a new one?

This link is not true. I called Auto Parts Train/Parts Train and they do not have this listing. I sent the guy the link to check because I told him we had fellow VX'rs interested.

I wonder what Merlin will sell one for? The shipping may kill me to San Diego since it is a large part and mine is completely rusted through on the passenger side. Well see....
I am showing the part number as:
BEAM; FRT BUMPER --- 8-97143-534-5

Most any competent metal fabrication shop should be able to fab one up for you, it's not that complicated a piece.
Shop around locally for bids.
