I am in need of tires on the 99 VX. Should I update to the 18's like the 00-01 VX?

IMO 18s wont get you anything but looks

It's pure aesthetics. Neither is "better" I have 20s on mine, had 18s stock. Larger diameter wheels also tend to weigh more which can decrease gas mileage. But they certainly do look better :D

If you want to hit the trails, stay with 16's. If you want to keep it on the street, go 18's. If you want looks... that's all on you!

I think the 18's look better, but they do have higher tire roar, poorer gas mileage, are heavier when you have to change them and cost more, they do grip better because there's a larger contact patch but unless you plan on racing your vx that shouldn't come into play
so if you're ok with the look of the 16's, I would stick with them

It definitely depends on what you like, but like Zeus said, if you plan on wheeling, I would say 16"s also. As far as looks go, I personally like a nice balance between metal and meat. The 18"s push the bling factor a little to much for me, but that is easily solved with some black rims. But bigger than 18" is just way to much for me. A VX on rubber bands just does not look right, imho...

IMO,,,If your using OEM wheels I'd go with 16" (no peeling). Aftermarket it's a toss-up, I have 2 sets of 16" and 1 18" set. 18" look better but 16" ride better...my 2c

I have 18s and 15s. The 15s give it a more retro look and better ride and the 18s are way better for handling.

Kodiak,

Love those 15s. I had them on a Samurai back in the day. Don't laugh - it was a great commuter car.

A set of 20's..... Seriously though, I wish I would've bought some 20's and huge mudding tires when I first got the VX back in Dec2004. Oh well, but I enjoy walking past the VX now more than ever.

Dude I still like the Samurai's they are sweet! I have often though about getting one and putting some 33 or 35's on.

Kodiak I agree on the 18" and the handling. I run 18's in the summer with Yokohama's and look forward the instigate (<-- spelling??) any Off-Ramp enter/exit challanges. With the Rancho's on firm the VX is on rails. A funny little story, With about 3 miles until my favorite exit ramp (Ramp speed posted at 40, I hit it at 60+ maybe a bit more if a challange arises) anyway a late model Mustang zipped by me so with about 1/2 before the exit I pushed the VX up to him, at this time he was looking out his rear mirror more than his windshield, then the fun began, with his door handles dragging the ground I pushed the VX up to him then backed off then up again (knowing when the straight away came he would leave me in the dust, I didn't give him the satifaction). He exited and took off, I cruised on into town then about 4 stop lights in we were side-by-sdie I was very surprized when I pulled up next to him he gave me a thumbs-up, I did the same. I love the VX ! ! !

I think I was running 31's. I ran it for 200K miles & gave it to my sister who put on another 50K. Engine never touched - 1 tranny rebuild - 1 TX replacement. Can't argue with that. Almost forgot - only rolled once.
