I changed the oil on the rear diff (to Mobil 1 Syn. 75w-90) and it has a funky drain plug that grabs the inside of the hole and then it sandwiches together when you tighten it. I went onto myisuzuparts.com and found that it is actually a metal drain plug that is 16 x 12.5 but does not designate a thread pitch. Has anyone had to replace one and knows the thread pitch? If so, is it a local hardware/bolt store or Merlin? I do not know why the previous owner had this other weird drain plug on and it looks like the threads on the rear diff housing are OK. Thanks for any feedback!

Iffin' it was me, I'd just drive over to the salvage yard & get one...:smilewink
But since I don't know your proximity to such places, I'd say Merlin.
It's not something the neighborhood hardware is likely to have.
If you REALLY have a hard time, pm me your info. & I'll get you one...but only because you're a Larry that drives an Astral...

To not start a new topic, I broke mine off this past weekend and it was impossible to find a replacement (napa is closed on weekends around here, just O'Reily's) at a store. It seems to be a M16x1.5. A locally owned oil drain place had a Subaru engine oil drain plug that was a M16x1.5 but had a M14 Hex head on it with a M24 washer. They gave it to me for free, even though I offered money. It fits and doesn't leak, but lacks a magnet on the end like the stock one had. I guess I'll search the internet or Napa for an oem replacement.
