Well, it has been turned on. For many scientists, this a wonderful news as they think they can recreate the Big Bang on a scaled level to get further insight to it's meaning. Other scientists are skeptical and fear that it could create a small black hole that will envelope the planet.

Large Hadron Collider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider)

My theory: Someone call Gordon Freeman (Halflife). He just might be needed to fight off the nasties that come through that portal that we are about to create, hahaha.

Exciting times my friends. Maybe the Mayan calender is right, heh.

Funny, I was just reading about this. Sounds cool, and scary at the same time. Ever see Event Horizon? Maybe its not that far fetched after all...

EDIT: Maybe we will actually have Portal guns sometime soon. That would be sweet!

Fade in REM..."That's great it starts with a black hole"

There was a machine/thing that imploded and a time warp occurrence ensued because of it, the collider makes me think of that.

Fade in RHPS..."Let's do the time warp again"...:rolleyesg

since I've become a night shifter the last month...I've been listening to that national radio show "Coast 2 Coast" and they've been talking about this quite a bit. They also mentioned that when the first A-Bomb was exploded no one knew absolutely for sure that it wouldn't ignite the Earth's atmosphere.

Supposedly Stephen Hawking (today's Einstein) believes that little will be gained by the attempt.

The History Channel aired a 1-hour special on this the other night but I fell asleep half-way through it. I did hear the professor say..not to fear..if we create a black hole it'll only be this big....lol.

And here I thought I was the only person ON EARTH that liked Space 1999, i have four seasons in sets. I want the UFO series, you are the only other person I have ever "met" that remembers that series.

How do you feel abour SeaQuest DSV, had a guy give me the first season, it's OK.

Hey, after a day of doing the REAL LIFE thing, a little scifi makes the world entertaining.

Don't laugh...I STILL have a model of the Eagle Transport sitting on my display shelf in the living room!

Alot of people don't know that the head special effects guy (model designer) of Space 1999 was hired by George Lucas for the first Star Wars motion pic.

You should talk to NocturnalVX...he told me on the way to Moab that he has the complete series on DVD too.

SeaQuest DSV was too non-violent the first season...got better after that...than got hokey + cheesey the last season. Although..its a toss-up who the better captain was...I liked both Roy Sheider & Mike Ironside.

Space 1999 does have one thing that is hard to take seriously and makes me snicker...their laser pistols. They are useless against every alien they encounter but work really good on each
other.. :p

Yep, count me as one of the few Space 1999 fanatics... VERY cool Eagle model! :_drool: I love Sci-Fi in general, and (while the series had it's cheesiness) I liked it way better than the first Star Trek.

Back on topic though... I love how the egg-heads go ahead and fire up experiments knowing that it may blink out life as we know it. "Oh, go ahead and flip the switch already! There's almost NO chance of this thing forming a black hole that will destr*

Man, I miss Half-Life. I should load it up and give it another go...its just saw hard to adjust to old graphics.

And this reminds me, I still need to get our vintage Max Headroom poster framed sometime soon.

Dude...If I didn't know any better...you're really one of those Predator alien thingies from the movies..you know...the one with the Jamaican dreadlocks who likes checking out AHNOLD's skull definition before he's going to shoot him with the red laser pointer :p

Oh..and just a quick note...if you ever saw Mel Brook's "SpaceBalls"...he pokes fun at almost every space genre out there...his spoofing of Space 1999 was the flying space motorhome designated "Eagle 5".

I know... I am way behind, but I just finished Half Life 2 yesterday. Got the Orange Box a month or so ago. Now on to Episode 1 and 2. Gotta love Half Life.

Ah, the days of staying late at work and playing the Oz mod on Half Life. Was always funny the other departments trying to figure out why a dozen engineers keep working an extra 2 hours every day. :) We did that for months! Some crazy electrical engineer even made a custom map with a layout of our offices. Fun forcing the boss out of the office with a nicely placed grenade and then beating him with the crowbar. Those were the days.

Ya man, I had a field day when Orange Box came out. Every night after work was another night that no friends would see me till I beat it. Hands down, best shooter series ever.

As for the original topic, I wonder if folks like Palin are interested at all in what the Hadron Collider is being used for, hahahaha (not getting political, just making a funny ;) ).

Yeah, Half-Life II was awesome, don't get me wrong, but I was a little let down with the fact that we never get to go to the alien dimension....maybe in the future we will though.
