View Full Version : Loads of VX Muddiness - last weekend...

Hi folks,

Hopefully this is the right place to stick up some piccys of the trip. Somefriends and I have just done to visit a few of the lanes around Bwylch and Rhayder (I think I've spelt those correctly) in deepest, darkest Wales.

There were 4 vehicles in all - a '68 Lightweight, a "Series 3" V8, Clarky's Paj and my Vehicross. As ever, the Japs gave a little away in terms of ground clearance (especially true of mine) but came away with only one worklight and 6 zipties worth of damage whereas the Landys needed a new throttle cable, new throttle springs, a dicky starter motor and some rather dodgy intermittent electrical faults between them. Oh yeah, and the passengers in the Japs were significantly less rattled about!

I got them custom-made my a steel fabricator in Kettering called Billson's Steel Services (http://www.billsonssteel.co.uk). If you ring them ask for Glynn and mention my name if you would. They're properly "Old School" and although they mainly do structural stuff they seem to enjoy a challenge. They started out making boilers for steam engines, so they've been about a while!

They cost me a bit over £400, but I know steel prices have risen since I ordered them (it was ages between ordering them and actually having them fitted as either I was away with work or the car was off the road...) but the quality of the work is great and its doubtless cheaper than trying to rplace or repair knackered panels or plastic.

They're still only primer so I'll need to paint them up properly at some point.

Btw, if you're still considering going to Japshow on Sunday then I will be there - whether or not there's a space on the Yaris Club UK stand remains to be seen though ;)

It is so cool to read English and be thrown off by certain words that never seem to have made it across the lake... Knackered! I am going to be using that word for weeks! :)

May want to be carefull if you use knackered around some aussie's. it can mean to have your balls removed :D ie we knackered the bull and now he is feeling lower than a snakes belly!

Yeah, you Aussies are weird :p

I was using "knackered" in the (Scots) sense of "broken", but it can also be used to say you're very tired - "I'm knackered..."

edit: Meant to say thanks for the compliments. Moab would be great but the logistics are, well, difficult. Steve and I are hoping to have a "micro-meet" at Japshow on Sunday though...
