wow! looks like a fun time! great video!!
Yah, sure, you betcha then there doncha know...that's us in the Nort woods of Minn-E-Sota.
The whole thing was last minute on my part, didn't know that I was going until the night before.
That's Jims bro, Mike in the white Jeep. We're still workin' him, trying to get him to Moab...:smilewink
After seeing/riding in, a Trooper with Joe (who posted the vid), he's giving serious consideration to Isuzu ownership.
Both Steve & Joe have Trooper RS's (really short), which the VX is based on, & they're both locked front/rear...
Let's just say that Mike was impressed...
That long hill climb that I came up is called "ski jump hill", as usual, pics don't do it justice.
Last time I tried it, I took a strap & some body damage...:sighwgray
Too bad the vid didn't show my "victory dance"...:razzgray:

Dub, I would say we need to put together a pot to come up with lucci to get some body work done for ya.... but I am quite sure on your way home from the shop you would find another backwater road to try out and do it all over again, heh.

Yeah, Ski Jump is a long, steep, loose climb...if it is wet you probably won't make it. It was fairly do-able that day.
Nice to see the vid caught me not noticing that big rock right in front of me at the top...

Alaskan's talk like that because a lot of them moved there from Minnesota. Seriously. I read it on the internet so it must be true...

Yeah, I have to say, after seeing BigSwede's red Trooper this past May, I have been keeping an eye out for em. I have seen 2 or 3 LS Troopers here in Reno and I actually have taken a liking too (for whatever reason) the Dodge Raider/Mitsu Montero. There aren't two many around, but nonetheless they have that same cool short wheel base look...

I could definitely get down in one of these rigs. I like them because they are a little bigger than the Samurai's yet still small and capable looking. Seriously, I don't know how people wheel in big pickups...
Anyway, cool vid, but you can keep all that mud! :)

Me too...I had an 86' full size Montero with V-6, right before I bought the VX.
Great truck, well built...burned so much oil it looked like a misquito fogger...:sighwgray
Since owning the Montero, it is always interesting to sit behind a Mitsu in traffic & see if it's burning oil...by my estimation, it's about 4 in ten that are.:_wrench:

Come to salt lake there’s Dodge raiders all over the place. I have a 91 Montero that likes to burn oil when it’s idling. I hate that V6.

Hmmm, so they are oil burners. That sucks, cause the dumbass in me was sitting here trying to think of a reason not to buy this:

For the price, it would be sweet to lift and bash around in...but if its a burner, the last thing I need is 2!

Yeah...you're probably right...:rolleyesg
Though I DO have a brand new from Isuzu passenger door shell in my inventory...:smilewink
She'll be back in the straight metal again some day...with a suitably outlandish paint scheme...:naughty:
Still workin' out the details in my brane...:disturbed

They're good trucks, but that V6 has some cereus oil burning problems. The 4 banger isn’t bad.

They don't have a 3.5L DOHC Isuzu V6 in em by chance, do they?

i cruised around in this 89 for a summer... it was pretty cool.. had the back seats turned facing the rear.. it was either 2003 or 2004.. it had 30k miles on it.. as far as i know i think its still under 50k.. but boy the wind pushed me all over the place

:laughy: Long trips can really wear you out if it’s windy. It’s about as aerodynamic as a barn.

FWIW, I haven't had to add oil to my Trooper since April, when I changed it last...and that includes the trip to Moab.

Trooper's aren't any different...on the trip to Moab last May I encountered a gusty 40 mph crosswind (and rain) in Nebraska, no fun in a lifted short wheel base Trooper on 35" balloons with no rear sway bar. The wind was from the right and every time I passed a truck the wind would suddenly stop and I had to correct to avoid getting sucked into the truck...then when I got beyond the front of the truck the blast of wind liked to push me into the median. Thankfully the wind tapered off by North Platte.
OTOH, they have lots of headroom... :bwgr:

That’s one thing you really take for granted in a VX. You barley feel the wind at all, It’s slippery.
BigSwede
11/04/2008, 01:02 PM
Yeah they are, which is cool...only 2 things I don't like about the VX:
1) Not enough headroom for me.
2) Deciding what to do with an oversize spare tire.

The SWB monteros and Raiders are all over my neck of the woods... I bet I pass (in driveways) 3-4 or them on my 3 mile commute to work.
Must have been a vehicle that was popular here.
My boss drives a late 90's trooper, and before that he had an older 2 door trooper. He does no maintenance, and has over 200,000 miles on his current one, and had almost 250,000 on his older one. Both had(have) the 3.2 I believe.
Don't get how some people can neglect cars and nothing bad happens, then others baby them and everything goes wrong :)

What about people who neglect cars and blow up the engine at 75k?

You know, everytime I start thinking of buying another truck to retire my VX in the garage, I just stop, and tell myself that the only TRUE option for me is another VX. :)
Its fun to look though.

Honestly there is nothing that can match the wide rang of versatile terrain drivability that the VX can. But you’re right it is fun to shop.:p
