Hummer H3 Alpha First Stock Class Vehicle To Finish 2008 Baja 1000

Team HUMMER once again demonstrated the inherent off-road capability of the HUMMER H3 as Chad Hall piloted his stock-full class #861 H3 Alpha to become the first stock class vehicle to finish the 2008 SCORE International Baja 1000.
The 2008 Baja 1000 marked the 41st anniversary of the grueling off-road race and covered 631.36 miles, starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. It ran from November 21-22, 2008.

quote from a jeep website:

Rubicon N H3 on December 26th, 2008 at 9:44 am

I have an 06 Rubicon unlimited, an 08 Rubicon unlimited 4 dr and an 09 H3 Championship series Alpha, all three have 4.10 gears, 4 to 1 low range and both front and rear lockers, they’re all extremely capable off road and I can guarantee you that the little Hummer is no poser, it will easily out four wheel most vehicles except a Rubicon.

flame-away fella's!!!!!:p

I like Hummers. I used to own a H3. Nice ride, but underpowered with the standard 5 cyl engine. It should be awesome with the 8 cyl.

I was waiting for the Hummer HX (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-hummer-hx-repels-into-cobo/)..I really like the concept. But I guess It won't be available anytime soon...

I really don’t have anything bad to say about the h3. The h2 on the other hand left a bad taste in my mouth.

Personally, I can not relate at all. I think the original military Hummers are ok looking, and cool because of what they are, but the H2 is one of the ugliest vehicles I have ever seen. The H3 is tolerable, but only because they deflated it a little so it looks more like a real truck. Now, if you were talking about this:

I might be able to see things your way, but imho, still nothing to trade your VX in for.

x2^^^^

also, its GM so its nearly impossible to aftermarket modify (at least electronically) and when you pass the lady on the freeway driving her kids to soccer and then to go get groceries driving the same car as you.....
....not so much fun....(makes you feel not so specail)

I do love this concept..but with the economy what it is and the prospect of Hummer either going the way of the doh doh bird or sold off; I doubt this concept will see the light of day. I don't care for the H2 & couldn't afford it even if I did. I really liked the Toyota (RC?) coupe concept too...but that never happened either!

My VX is the longest I've owned anything. There really isn't too many off-road capable vehicles out there to buy currently. I have a Jeep dealer just 12 miles up the road from me  I keep looking at the Rubicon's!

Really like the idea of a V-8 powered, off-road capable vehicle with a full-frame (That's what kept me from seriously considering the H3 was the bad reviews on poor performance of the I5 engine.) Had a Grand Cherokee (uni-body) and really don't want another.
(Chevy ZR-2 Blazer was on my radar when I decided to buy the VX.)

Sorry for the rambling..just a night-shift thing :bgwb: I appreciate the postings to this thread...giving me lots of food to fodder!!!!!!!

On a final note...I think all this is brewing because I'm about to sink some hard-earned cash into my VX to lift and would like to add front & rear lockers with possibly lower gearing and I just keep looking at the fast approaching 90K mile mark and the poor resale value and the buyer's market going on with new vehicles....I think my head's about to explode :_thinking :_brickwal :bomb: :disturbed

thats what i keep thinking, is to get rid of the VX to buy something newer and more capable...but then look at it this way-

1. the VX is paid off (yay)
2. you will never get as many amazed/puzzled looks with any suv or truck...people never look twice at jeeps or hummers because they are all over the place
3. how exciting would it be to be wheeling with your jeep along with the other 50,000,000 jeeps around???
4. the resale value of the VX is almost nothing so is it worth getting rid of just for half of a down payment on something new???
5. its not worth much so if you wheel it hard and (**$# it up, you can buy another with doner parts for fairly cheap (this is the route im thinking about going)

just the way i look at it....
