I was looking through some old threads and found a thread where someone tried to get custom gauges made for their VX.. well i did a little research and found out the place who does it is like 15 minutes from my house, so I paid them a visit today...

they do top notch work! their gauges looked amazing, so I figured I would see what kind of interest there is in getting them made. The minimum order for custom gauges is $250 (thats 10 gauges) thats just basic though, to add designs and such, will probably be closer to 30 per kit.. so figure $35-40 shipped.

they told me that I would need a spare cluster, but once they had it, turn around time would probably be 2 weeks or so. the 10 have to be the same design, but can be different colors. anyone have any interest in ordering? im thinking if i can get at least 7-8 people to commit i will just pay for the extras and e-bay them or something

here is a link to their site so you can see examples of past work.. i really liked the look of the place

kenny pieced together a kit from a trooper and a rodeo i believe.. these are just overlays.. from what i can tell they wont change the color or anything... the company also sells backlit needles that should fit our application.. when/if i get them a gauge cluster to work with, ill have them test fit needles if theres interest there

Not wanting to sound stupid:p
Would it take just a different colored bulb, to make the temp and fuel, match the orange light of the tach and speedo at night?
If so, I think I would change those bulbs.....
That would be enough of a mod for me:grino:

I already have the glowing needles in my VX, they are Blue LEDs mounted directly underneath the needles so needle removal for the glowing different colored needles is needed, but when you change out just the gauges no needle removal is required.

There are 4 194 bulbs behind our gauges and changing the color of the bulb would change all of the wording like "TOD" and "Torque on Demand" and "P R N D 3 2 L" and the Odometer numbers and the trip numbers and the outline of the driveline/wheels in the TOD area, it would also slightly affect the color of the needles, but they are painted so it would be barely noticeable. In order to do the glowing needles you have to remove the needles and scrap off the paint from the rear of the needles and paint them to match your color of LEDs of choice or white like I did.

Here is what it looked like about mid-way through my interior LED transition. As of this photo I still had yet to install the Blue Led glowing needles and white LED behind the gauges, and I now have moved all the buttons around and added a fog light switch. I need to take some more pics.

if I did anything like that, being that this is a gauge decal, I would vote to keep the same fonts and markings as stock so they light up properly from behind ...

Most likely, I'd pick a simulated carbon vinyl just to tie it in better with the simulated door trim

http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/medium/dash1blue.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=12677)

of course you would be able to choose your own colors (or at least 1 of them)

feel free to give me any design suggestions/ideas

Nice job!
Kind of reminds me of a "horizon indicator" from the instrument cluster of a airplane. I would feel like I was always banking left....

:_confused just a theme.. the blue could be substituted for the color of your choice if/when these actually get produced
