Anybody ever disable the locking gas flap door? Since there's no remote opener it drives me nuts. Didn't come up with anything when I searched past threads.

Nope, I think you might be the first...

Now I know why a few "off road badges" bother you...:smilewink

Personally, I think the "aircraft style" gas cap is BAAADDDD ASSSSSSSS!!!! Leave the interior gas cap remote lever's to the other rice-grinder vehicles like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan. The only thing I would alter to the VX gas cap is to make it CHROME-PLATED!!! (Sadly, chrome won't stick to aluminum)

VX KAT, if it is having to leave your keys in the door that bothers you, contact bulldoggie. He did a simple mod where you can remove them, but still have it locked.

Riff Raff, true about aluminum and chrome, but aluminum can be polished to a mirror like finish then clear coated with this. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=415&itemType=PRODUCT

here is a not great photo of mine.

its very easy to take the lock barrel off of the gas cap door.. you would need to find some other way to hold it closed though if you did that, but im sure it can be done with a little creativity

OK, OK, you've figured me out, I'm a little too anal when it comes to my car! Plus I wrote that post late, when I was tired. Just slap me when I start whinning! Did I mention how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE:heart: my VX?

The good news, I used the Trim Shine and it worked great, can't see the scratches, I'm over it now! Scratches, what scrathes??!!:grinp:

There may be a door assembly from another car (that doesn't lock) that will fit. Now that I think about it, the one on my Eclipse may be similar in size. I'll look tonite & let you know if it's worth looking in the boneyard for one.

i think the locking gas cap is great....

first, no one can ever $#@% with your fuel system...

second, you shouldnt have your keys in your ignition while filling up gas anyhow, so this just forces you to be safe and not blow up or light your car on fire...

i know it doesnt happen as often anymore, but it can happen...

ROWHARD (John)-- Thanx for the info. I also thought that a custom-fit Chrome-colored "Decal" would look great on top of the VX gas-cap lid. I've seen these Chrome Decals used on similiar Aircraft-Style gas caps used on Motorcycles (in pictures). I did a quick search on the internet, and some aftermarket motorcycle shops carry these already pre-cut to fit (just peel-n-stick). If there is an identical motorcycle aircraft-style gas cap lid like on the VX, then this would be another dress-up option. Aim High!!!

I wonder if it might be a off the shelf GM model, in which case you could get a nice chrome one from Shucks or your locally auto store,.... oh wait, that was Riff Raff that wants chrome

Since when can you not chrome aluminum? My Harley was LOADED with chrome-plated aluminum parts, unless something's changed since 1989...

Yup-yup...weren't the rims on 00 & 01 VX's chromed (eventually peeling) aluminium?

Yep, I just put a carbon fiber one on my Suzuki DL 1000 (V-Strom) and it came from the Suzuki Dealer...took like 2 minutes to install & looks great!
