View Full Version : Stalls idling in Drive
Starts great, every time. Idles in Park fine. Shift into Drive and it stalls.
To get home I had to keep the engine at 1500rpm while breaking with my other foot at stoplights.

That's a tough one. You don't mention getting a CEL so I'm guessing it could be any number of things: Idle Control Valve, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Shift Sensor ... or any combination thereof.
How about putting in some gas treatment with fuel injector cleaner as a start & see if the problem goes away.

Mine did the same thing a couple years ago. I replaced the Idle Control Valve ($58 and maybe 10 minutes).. Took care of the problem. Good luck

That fixed a similar problem on my 928 (although in that car, you have to remove the entire intake plenum, fuel rails, etc, to get to it, and the part cost $400!)

Was that at a Porsche dealer, or a private repair shop?

I'll second (or third) the idle control. Look in the technical manual for "Idle Air Control". This is mounted on the face of the throttle body, and attaches with a pair of torx screws, if I recall correctly.
I took mine out, cleaned the hell out of it with sensor-safe cleaning spray, then reinstalled it. It's been working like a champ every since!

Try simply disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, to do a hard-reset on the engine computer.
