so, i dont know what made me think of this, but how cool would it be to have a way to have your rear seat on a bracket that would mount to the rear receiver hitch on your vx??

so if you were camping out in moab you could just back your VX up to the campfire and you would have the most comfortable seat around ;)

you could also leave the rear door open for musical entertainment and somewhere to set your beer....

for traveling, you would just fold the seat up and slide it in along the side of the back of the VX....
the bracket would easily dismount to sit next to the folded up seat...

just thought it would be a cool use for people who camp a lot (i like to camp a lot!)

 THAT is funny, Dub. I actually use one of these for camping:

And for a while now I have been wanting one of these for my hitch:

PB, I like the idea actually, but the back seats are so damn big!

I can't wait for the weather to get better! Camping is on!

ya i was just thinking that if you dont use the seat anyhow, and you have all that space back there....then it wouldnt be that much of a burden to put back there along the side folded up.... i wouldnt worry so much about the size, but more that its uber heavy for a seat....
maybe when i have my sliders put on ill talk to the welder about making some easy brackets...
i've been wanting a reason to order a hitch for my VX (i know im gonna need it one day)...it would be nice to be able to tow a small trailer...

come to think of it, im sure someone out there makes something like this that is much more lightweight...is just that our rear seats are really comfy, and they recline :thumbup:

its definately not on the top of my to-do list...but maybe one day you'll see a contraption like this in moab ;)

That's why I got it, just have it in case I ever need to haul stuff. If you get the frame mounted hitch, have fun installing it! ;)

im not sure how its mounted but im definately gonna get the one that goes through the cladding, hidden... i know im not gonna use it much, so i want to have it as hidden as possible...i may even try to find a way to hide the receiver in the cladding...

im thinking it would be great to be able to tow the parental units boat if they decided to let me borrow it for the weekend or something ;)

I don't really think that would be possible with Tone's hitch, there isn't enough room back there, but that said, Tone's hitch doesn't look bad at all, in fact I think it looks pretty stock like it belongs there. It's just a whore to install. :)

thats what i've heard...is it required to weld it or can it bolt on???

your talking about the one that goes through the cladding, not the one that hangs below right??

yep tones hitch is bolt on.. took me 2-3 hrs to do it.. removing the rear cladding is no easy task.. drilling the frame is no easy task.. but once its there it doesnt show too bad.. i put a nice Go Rhino! bumper bar in mine most of the time.. looks good back there  plus offers some additional protection from being rear ended, bumped during parallel parking, backing into things.. and if you pull it out to the 3rd notch.. you can even sit on it somewhat comfortably (but i keep it as close to the vx as possible)

Yeah, like mine, Tone's hitch is bolt on, through the cladding:
http://www.nofuture.com/myvx/mods/hitch.jpg

It is NOT easy to install, imo. What makes it difficult is pulling away the back cladding and getting to the bolts on the side. I used mini vice grips with a tor-x bit clamped in at a 90 degree angle. Drilling the holes is a little difficult too, as lining things up is a little bit tricky. However, this is the nicest looking hitch for the VX. IMO, the ones that hang underneath look like something that doesn't belong. Plus, having a hitch in any form will decrease ground clearance. Even lifted my hitch scraped in Moab a few times. The ones that go under the cladding probably will take a hard beating if you wheel.

i put a nice Go Rhino! bumper bar in mine most of the time..

Yeah, I kinda wanna get one of those. I don't much care for the way they look, but the extra protection is key. I think I will wait until I get my welding shop together and then make one that has spikes sticking out backwards. That'll keep most people from tailgating.

You know, after your photo shoot, I could so picture you with spiked rear bumper, and you could hook up the wifes car with some spinner spikes, thats something for the zombie revolution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like my external hitch as it acts as a nice piece of protection for the cladding and fuel tank on drop offs! Looks butt ugly so I just never look at it.

If you do any wheeeeeling...

...I suggest the exposed style hitch.

The 'cross bar' makes a great "grounding out" exit protector for yer azz end AND exhausts.

AND..be sure to put a step bar on it...

..save LOADS OF $$$$'s when people run into you...or you back into something!

Trust me...I now...I've been SAVED three times !

jo, you have been a little bit of ghost lately.....

i personally would rather have the integrated look of the built in one vs. the loss of ground clearance on the external....

also, i have my exhaust chopped up high so that it doesnt have a chance to scrape and bend...(already wrapped my stock exhaust around the axle trying to back off of something)...

and thats why we have a skid plate below the gas tank ;)

oh, and jo...if you quit backing into things, you wont need to have your step bar back there..

Yea well...seems the ORW likes it that way!

It won't work on the VX anyway, I have a fold up cargo carrier from them for my Expedition, I tried it on the VX, the hitch on the VX is tucked too far under the rear end, so not enough room to fold it up. I would imagine the seat would be the same way. It is a pretty good idea though. Wonder if they take trad-ins on their products!!!

"the hitch on the VX is tucked too far under the rear end, so not enough room to fold it up."

I've seen extenders on cars. I don't know if they bought them or had them custom made. Should be pretty simple though. 2 pieces of square tubing (1 to match the ID of the receiver and 1 to match the OD of the mating part). 4 holes, 2 bolts & an extra receiver pin - yer done.
