Hey guys, well as most of you know i'm trying to make my VX a Rally VX as much as possible, but also i need to have it fit for a rough terrain in Costa Rica and floodings. So with that said. I will tell you guys what my new and soon project will be. Was gonna wait to finish first but i prefare see what you guys think and what advise you guys got, before i start the project. well I'm not going to full detal on this but just explain it pretty simple. Well i'm going to make a snorkle on my VX, but cuz we don't have a snorkle ready made for our rigs and the ones i have seen i'm not to fond of, i want to make it look really good but as usefull as a normal snorkle. So what i plan on doing is add a Roof Scoop from a WRX, but not sure what to use. So i'm going to cut a hole to fit a K&N filter perfect on the roof, place the bolt on Scoop, not glued or platered on Scoop on top of the K&N Filter. then run a water tight hose from the inside of the VX to the side of the passenger "A" piller, cut down into the dash and into the engine bay to the factory intake hose/ Mass flow sensor. So cuz of the cutting and time taking project and i'm going to buy the best looking and quality stuff to do this, the scoop will be painted white before it's done, but i need advise on what kind of things i should buy and how can i make the scoop useful also in the rain so it wont rain into the filter. This is something i would really like to do right and pull of, but if you guys know of any thing that can go wrong please let me know or if you guys have diffrent ideas on how it should be done, please tell me, thanx guys.
Here is the 2 scoops i like and size is good for a good air flow in the intake. whitch 1 do you guys think i should get or is there something better out there.

Lighten up Coastie...Bro Jo isn't hammerin' ya THAT hard...:smilewink
Think of us old guys as big brothers...only MORE so...:laughgray
I'm still not sure how you plan on plumbing this contraption into the roof, but good luck.
Also, if it's facing forward, & it's raining HARD, you're gonna be sucking water into the intake...BAD!

But if it is facing backward and raining hard, it will drain into it... Right? I'm am just guessing though... Hmmm... I will have to research this now...

my personal opinion is...if your going to go crazy enough to make a roof scoop...go ahead and use the big one!!! i like the WRX style one on top...
gonna be the craziest looking VX around!!!
be careful with moisture inside the cab, mold can be a bad thing for your personal respiration!

I like number one.
And I do have to say, wow, I am looking forward to seeing this done.
I would like to see more details of where and how the hose will run back to the engine bay from the roof.

Pura vida costie.
Costie I don't think is a good idea about the impreza scoop, however don't you like the 4runner sport scoop ? I think is the best & better looking scoop out there for the VX.You can find one on ebay for $ 50 with shipping included.Again costie,a scoop over the roof will deffinetly kill the VX's aerodinamic design, plus the A pillars are bit narrow to run air ducts thru though. However I strongly believe that this project shall be handle by professionals for better advice my friend since none of us ever did that sort of mod,but persnally I wouldn't encourage you to do that

I say don't try to run the snorkle inside - keep it outside. The size of the snorkle tube you would need to keep the engine from asphyxiating is going to be bigger around than the A-pillar is! Add a bunch of turns and twists in there to get it in, under and through the dashboard into the engine bay and you will probably be starving that engine for air no matter how big you can get the piping.

Yea I agree...
Wow jo that one was tough though
...and I phrased it REALLY badly froom the get go.
Technical questions are one thing , I just feel that the "look" of a VX is very personal , and a matter of individual choice.
....and so it should be.
It should look how YOU want it to look!
Heck....many hate my cowcatcher !
But yer right...my bad for being so brusque.

Yeah but I understand what you meant. That's why i told costie have professional advice for the mod he's about to pull off,I mean no one here never, ever did this kind of mod on any VX.Personally I can't thing more on the VX's roof then a sunroof or fake antenna.Costie wants to "turn" the VX into a rally VX.however what intrigues me about costie's rally mods is the facts that the VX was born-made for all offroading purposes, including rally so mayor modifications aren't needed for the VX to performe flawlessly. The VX won the paris-dakar twice with no mods at all costie.
However costie do what you got to do,if you really wants that mod go ahead.

I would go #2 myself.
#1 just looks like it belongs on a hood, not a roof. IMO

Whoa, wait a minute....
If I am reading this right, you are looking at adding a roof vent? Ok, no biggie, but understand, you are looking at "hood scoops" there. You mount a giant STI scoop (picture 1) and I can almost guarantee that your aero will be !@#$ed beyond comprehension. You need to look at the Spec C type vent for the WRX/STI. Way more low profile and made to function (if installed properly).

I seriously wouldn't put a hood scoop on my roof, especially as an engine air intake. In rally, they are for interior cooling/circulation, not engine related.

The roads in Costa Rica are such that aerodynamics don't really come into play - but 3 ft of water does...

This is not only about the hood scoop itself, but modifying the roof;Costie will need to modify the front side of the roof to fit the scoop, which mean creating a sort of boxie looking mod,run air ducts from there to the left side of the roof,I don't know how he would fit air ducts within the roof & headliner (another required mod) + the VX's head clearance is limited that means less head room & less windshield sight & destryoing the headliner.I don't see that good at all.
I may be wrong, probably costie might have another setup, but after looking at my own VX picturing that mod I don,t see the VX's excelent aerodinamics design any more
