Last Friday I drove the VX to work since I needed to tow the trailer home. A Stafford County Officer was kind enough to hit me with the blue lights to inform me that my tags were expired (OOOPPSS).
Luckly he was more interested in the PUV than in writing a ticket so I just got a warning.
I went online to register it over the weekend. Sticker shock. Our registration jumped by 50% since last year. The good news is that you can register for 3 years now so I won't get caught again till 2011 but it did set me back a cool $215.

215 for 3 years! That ain't bad. Cost me almost that much per year here in Az. And I know Cal is even worse!

$186 for registration and ad valorem for my truck this year. It was almost $700 when the truck was new (ad valorem is basically road tax and it goes down as the value of the vehicle drops) - I'd say you can't complain.

Can't Y'all even let me vent for a few minutes before Ya shoot me down.:)
I guess $215 for 3 years on a vanity plate really ain't bad. The real shock tho was the 50% increase from last year.

Hi guys !
I had my registration renewed on january, cost me $ 100.oo sharp for two years.
However when is time to renew i can expect a fee hike because NYS DMV just pass the new bill to collect more registration funds.

ARGHHHH!! Sore subject! Lived in Los Angeles, learned painful reality of like $500 - $600 per car per yr plus SMOG test fees, then moved to Texas & took great delight in paying only $72/yr per car flat fee, no SMOG....but then, uggggghhhh, moved to AZ 15 months ago & realized they're just about as high as Calif....
Then coincidentally transferred registration on hubby's FJ and traded my car for a new 4Runner in the same month....MARCH '08.....don't EVEN ask how bad THIS March was! :freek: ;puke: Note to self.....don't get 2 cars registered in same month in AZ ...oh and let's throw in the appendectomy/hospital bill too :_brickwal.....OUCH! Oh well, at least I'm alive.....and my VX is in December. :grinp:

"OK, you can feel bad NOW!"
Thanks Gregg. I was starting to feel better but then I remembered that I have to renew the tags on the TLC in April.
"Note to self.....don't get 2 cars registered in same month in AZ"
Thanks Kat. Don't do that anywhere ... of course that's why I forgot that my tags were expiring on the VX - 6 cars (ours & kids) that all have inspections & tags spread out all over the calendar ...

I have heard rumors that MD is trying to pass an SUV Reg change that would call for "SUVs" (not pickups/work trucks), to pay a flat $700 reg every 2 years. It is nicknamed the "MD SUV TAX". This would only cover SUVs "over" 4000lbs licensed in MD. Like I said.... I only heard that. Don't know if there is any truth to it at all.
I wouldn't care to be honest with you.... it's all soccer moms with their giant SUVs here anyways.

"Why so much? did you get 3?"
Yup. We went with the books instead of the cards cause we're still dreaming of a trip to Ireland in the near future (that may be our birthday presents to each other next year).
