Coming back from Peterson Museum , I noticed the TOD check light flashing.

Pulled over...looked at what i could , no obvious problems.

Started up again...light was off...it came on again just over 60 MPH...went off again...came on again..etc.

Slight "growling" (tranny??) noise when foot lifted off gas (very end of foot lift...like just before no gas at all)....

Anyone have any clues???...gotta sort it B4 Moab trip!

Thanks

Tire pressure? Odd tire wear? Try putting your front tires on rear and rear on front and see if it continues. Also check the connector to the TOD computer. Those are the cheap and easy things.

Yup Billy...all tires checked and equalized before run up to Peterson....and tire wear is even.

I'll check the connector.....

I'd still try swapping the front and rear just to be sure.

Or you can just keep it under 59MPH!

Ya, at speed, I would seriously lean towards tire wear/pressure.

Parking brake is disengaged completely right? We had a rental car (JeepLiberty IIRC) in LA a couple years ago and some weird AWD/4WD light kept flashing at speed on the 10. Turns out the emergency brake was slightly engaged still and some weird brake wear caused bad rotation. Go figure.

I'll rotate and recheck tire pressure...

...the TOD must be REALLY sesitive if this solves it...I HOPE SO!

Any views on the growly/grindy noise?

Thanks for input

Jo, have you checked the fluid level in the transfer case? I was getting a bit of a growling noise last year in Moab, and didn't realize that my xfer case fluid was low until Dub checked it in the parking lot during the lift proceedure. Now I find out that I have a slow leak in the xfer case pan seal that I'll have to get fixed before Moab.

Also, do you have an after market 4x4 shift lever top? My VX came with a carbon fiberish looking knob from the PO and it has ALWAYS made a little "grinding" noise when I let off the gas and the gears start to push against each other. It's not really a grinding noise, but it's hard to explain.

Tranny fluid is good...just done about 1000 miles ago , no leaks

No after market shifter...and I agree , the noise is hard to describe!!

Jo, not the tranny fluid, the transfer case fluid. I don't think one feeds the other so you'll need to check it separately.

Yea my bad...I meant T/case.

Thanks for checking!

There's probably a TOD code stored that'll give ya some clues.

Numbers 4 and 5 are the GND terminals.

This is a wire that you use to jump the terminals at the data port-

Here's a video I made showing the TOD check light flashing the code.
The code is 12 of course, meaning everything is normal.
