I have had a few people asking about my roof rack recently.
The only thule bars i found to fit are the 'gutter' fitting type. They are a bit high but if you need to carry something they work perfectly. THis is them !!!

I have just lowered mine a bit by cutting down the feet, here's the foot comparison. The origonal is on the left. Please note the new hole needed in 'hook' clamp piece to keep the feet pulled down and secure. i have not taken a pic with them on the VX yet but I will take a photo as it has made a fair bit of difference!!

They look very similar!! Maybe a bit taller though?
I know that Thule do the same as mine but a bit taller, its a 931 or something.

Hi All
I'm one of those asking CR about the roof rack. I've decided to try to make custom 'feet'/mounts but does anyone have any pics of the Yakima Ironman rack and importantly how it attached to the VX's roof rails. I'm hoping to fabricate similar attachments but would like to know how Isuzu addressed the problem.
Thanks

Cheers!. As long as the ends where it locks on are the same a bit of tallness can be dealt with in the modding way.

Hi CR,
As the 15cm recesses in the top of the rails are not parallel with the roof rails (they toe in from front of the VX to the back). When you use the Thule clamps, do they effectively only make a single point contact with the side of the rail? Or do the clamp plates float enough to make contact along the length of the rail?

They make contact the hole way, it's very sturdy !

You will find what you're looking for in Dino's gallery...

And copied crotchs idea of cutting it down :D
Now sits really good. Also brought a roof basket, just tidying it up.

Just a world of warning. As you know I'm also looking into putting a basket on top of my VX but I very aware that a number of car park and county facilities have 6 ft 6 inc limbo bar on their entrances. I'll by trying to keep under that height so I dont, sometime in the future, rip the roof rails off.
C.rocket, as you've got a body lift and you've got high roof rails you must be very near that height already?

my mod:), Thule bars 4900 (for subaru forester) + aero racks
http://forum.4x4club.ru/uploads_g/1239714872/med_gallery_5083_102_216806.jpg
The mod is -
1. I've cut Thule aero racks from 1200mm to approx 1000mm, and machining a little :) (trick - buy as short as possible bars around 1000mm, and do nothing:bwgr:)
2. also, of course a new hole needed in the roof rail from internal side.
looks nice:bwgr:

Thanks for confirming that the Thule Subaru Forester feet would work with some modification to the VX roof rails. I'd been thinking that they looked the most likely - but I'd like to see the pix of the mods before going for this option and start cutting. They really look the best, so hope to see some pix soon.

Mine are meant to be for a Renault Kangoo with roof rails. If ever there was a polar opposite to a Vehicross...

Yep.
This is the fancy off-road version...

They look like this with the crate on (the rack mounts, not the Kangoo):-
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y107/alanbradley/Greenlaning%20Wales%20May%2009/DSC01606.jpg
I bought them in a French vehicle-parts store called Feu-Vert and they're certainly strong enough. They let me try a whole load of "possibles" before I found ones that would fit - I think the manager just wanted a good look at the VX!
Here's the packaging...
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y107/alanbradley/VehiCross%20Stuff/roofbarlabel.jpg
Renault Kangoo, Peugeot 406 estate and Freelander.
Sorry I haven't any closeups of the mounts themselves. The tray is just a generic one sort-of meant for SWB Pajero/Monterey/Shoguns.
Hope that helps,
Alan
