Just read this article on another car forum. Wow, pretty scary, just thought I would pass it on. I know a few of us here weld...

And although the article makes no mention of it, Phosgene gas was one of the first offensive chemical weapons used in combat (WWI) by a modern mechanized army...pretty crazy, now I know how to make it. :_wtf:

Makes me wonder what kind of long-term effects the carb cleaner is going to have on him... Welding or brazing on galvanized metal also creates a poisonous or noxious gas. Welding fumes themselves are very harmful as well. I have never heard of someone using chemicals as a way to clean the welding surfaces personally. I think I'll stay away from that practice.

Holy Cow; I hope MARLIN reads that thread, as he just started learning how to weld. He's got an experienced welder as a trainer, so hopefully they talked about various hazards.
