i am wondering, does anyone here have good advice on the cheapest way to get a large item shipped? like who to use for shipping - like dhl, fed-ex, ups, etc. who is most reliable to use.

Yeah, Greyhound is a good idea. I use UPS freight all the time too...

Hard to beat Greyhound for large stuff.
Here's my post from a few weeks back. If you search "greyhound" and "grayhound" you'll find some more about it.

I've shipped whole pieces of furniture via Greyhound and it was the cheapest and very reliable. Just make sure you pack it up well (I used bubblewrap and shrinkwrap over the whole thing). I haven't tried paletizing it - not sure if they have a fork lift available to place it in the luggage compartment, so this might not be the best for really heavy items.
