Are they rare? I have only seen the gray and yellow.

I've got 2 of each, I went on a hunt for as many colors as I could find a while back...ended up with some duplicates...want to buy them? $6 + shipping.

It took a while, but I did find a black one, only one I ever saw. Got most of them on ebay (but check off WorldWide/INTERNATIONAL on the left side bar), as most of the 1:43 size are in UK, Ireland, Germany and Italy. Check out my pic here I took last night, you'll see the black one.

As far as colors, the only diecast type models (of various sizes) I found were Red, burgundy (Foxfire), silver (just silver, not Astral or Kaiser), yellow (Proton), Peacock Mica, black, Jungle Rally, and a PURPLE. Think I may have seen a green one along the way.

There a few different brands, I could look them up if you want, can't recall them all off the top of my head.

Check out my gallery I have a few pics of some larger models (maybe 4" long that I found on the internet, I don't own them, but I did find a white one which I couldn't find for sale to save my soul! The Queen of ebay and all things on the internet failed on that one....:(

Cool! Thanks for the info.

I think that black one in your pic may cause more debate about the cladding/hood insert color:bgwb:

I gave away a dozen or so of various colors hotwheels at Moab this year. I bought a lot of them "buy it now" on Ebay for like 15 bucks with S&H or so. I have some at work for when I get bored. The guys in the office defaced my foxfire model. It is now complete with a paperclip roof rack, and a paperclip front bumper they sharpied black to match mine. They also took one of them and set it in green jello. Looked like VX fruit salad...they have even more time than I do apparently.

I have quite a few.....but I want a white one. Very odd you cant find white but easily yellow and red.

I have a friend that works for Mattel, she told me a lot of the Taxi companies placed advance orders for the proton color to give away as promotional gifts and then didn't complete the orders. Hence more yellow than any other color.

I don't know about that - I see more of the silver initial run than any other color. After that is probably the red.

I agree its silver first...then yellow/red. I just figured silver being dominate was a given, when i stated yellow and red.

Hot Wheels galore

Lots of them on ebay right now. I've got protons all over the house so I think i'm done buying up more protons.

Lol I didn't want to burst your bubble before, but you're right, there's literally dozens of Hot Wheels VX's on eBay any given day, many of them Proton. Luckily they're only $.99 most of the time. :)

If you want more of a challenge, try collecting the 1:43 and 1:72 Cararama models. They're not that rare either, but collecting all the colors takes effort.

Smart counting! You get a gold star! (Sorry, I watch WAY too much Dora the Explorer these days.) :D

Point is they're cheap, plentiful, and will likely never be a "collectible". Doesn't mean it's not fun to collect them though! :)

Remember those stupid stuffed animals called beanie babies? A buck worth of material and stuffing and people were paying thousands for some. Now a days they arent worth spit. It makes buying a house a few years ago look like a wise investment
