Is it like any other power steering pump, or is there more to it? Just has a squeal on start up and goes away as the engine warms up.
thanks

Stooopid question but did you check the fluid level?
Also before replacing the pump, check to make sure that your serpentine belt is not glazed & cracked.

Ya gotta get the repair manual if ya wanna work on your VX.

Also, everyone should be changing their PS fliud on a regular basis to avoid costly repairs. Many shops will do a PS fluid flush, or ya could do that on your own. A real simple easy way to freshen the fluid is to just remove it with a turkey baster thing. Remove the reservoir lid, pull up on the baffle to remove it, remove fluid, refill with tranny fluid, replace lid, start engine and turn the wheel back and forth, shut off and repeat about five times, replace baffle and lid, drive happy.
I've done that a few times over the years. My PS system still works great after 209K miles.

As T4B said...check fluid level. Low fluid will cause squeeling.

Definitely check the fluid before you burn out the pump or the gearbox. I just did both on my Trooper and it wasn't cheap. And Trooper parts are cheap compared to VX parts.

Have you tried using an additive like Lucas Oil Power Steering Stop Leak (http://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=28&catid=9&loc=show&headTitle= - Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak)? The power steering pump in my '82 Mustang has always squealed, even when new, and this has made it considerably quieter, although not totally. It may be all you need until it fails completely. :)
