I am kind of digging it...for a small car!:yesy::yeso::yesb:

5 inches shorter and 300lbs lighter than a Mini and the Abarth model has 170hp! Sounds fun!
Good luck -
an associate of mine bought one for his wife.
It was the standard model, not high performance.
At the first service, they had compiled a list of 43 complaints.
After the service, only 2 of the complaints had been fixed.
He took it back and told them he was leaving the car there until it was fixed properly.
After 3 weeks, it still wasn't fixed.
They traded it in on a Smart car and are now very happy.

I guess the eight ball on the grill describes it

As long as they learned what NOT to do from the X1/9... LOL
It kinda looks like a VW Beetle, doesn't it?

I agree with everyone else, it looks okay at best. It looks like a strange VW GTI, hopefully the perfomance is as impressive

The Abarth is a hoot. They've been playing with this one overseas for awhile now. And you can even close the engine cover on this one :bgwo:

I too have been digging this car and looking forward to when it comes to the US.. but.....The need for power means I would want the Abarth package and the problem I see with that is the cost will be higher than it should be and the mileage will go in the crapper. I am looking for a vehicle that is fun to drive and gets decent mileage. I ordered a smart car when they first came out but cancelled the order when I took a test drive. The trade off for the mileage was a really boring drive. Instead I will probably go with a used Mini.

After college, my best friend got excited about sports cars and bought an X1/9 after I inherited and started driving an MG Midget. Although I had quite a bit of mechanic experience by then, he had never owned or worked on a car before. I think he could have graduated from Fiat mechanic school by the end of his first summer with that car. Good times...fun cars.
I am looking forward to the Fiat 500 introduction.
Though it might look almost cool with a big ol' whale tail mounted on the back...

I had a 1967 Fiat Abarth 1300 (850 with engine out of the 124 - running backward)
At 130K mi. I sold to Star Trek I producer Bob Delasantina and it is still running.
I would expect anything from great service and performance to a rolling disaster.
Fiat is a wild card.

The FRENCH :D
I had a citroen C2 many moon's ago and the french build quality leaves something to be desired! If i had to have one i'd get a white Abarth edition, they have only recently been released and have alot better stats than the sandard model!

TechnoPope, I can definitely relate! My brother had the X1/9 and I had a Midget. We both gained a lot of mechanical knowledge. Also learned a lot about pressing objects found by the roadside into service - pieces of beer can to repair fuel pump points, wine bottle corks to plug holes in the intake when a gulp valve "disappears" while buzzing down the interstate at 75% of redline trying to keep up with traffic, etc. I sure developed a finely tuned ear for the sound of a motor getting ready to go off-song and also for the sound of a metal part hitting the pavement. (I'm sure you've seen the bumper sticker that says "All parts falling off this vehicle are of the finest British craftsmanship") But like you say "Good times...fun cars" That MG was more than just a ride - it was a rolling adventure. In fact I'd say it was more than good times - it was the best of times.
OK in order to keep this from being a total TJ: I actually like the looks of that little Fiat - especially the Hamann - check out the rear view half way down the http://500oc.net/ site - 265hp from 1.4 liters is not too shabby! And props to whoever incorporated that eight ball in the grill so that the driver is always "behind the eight ball" - funny stuff!

I tried the Abarth about 6 months ago and it was an absolute hoot. The 1.4 turbo is great and the interior is really funky with its change up lights and dial within dial instruments. I didn't stop talking about it for a week, but eventually the realisations that it was Italian where I was used to the Japanese reliability of my multiple Yari and (mainly) that £13500 was a lot of money for a small car with near-unusable rear seats.
I still like them.
