When I bot my Pirelli Scorpion AT's, I had the choice of P (Passsanger) or LT (Light Truck) ratings for the same size (245/70-16). I chose P for a softer ride. So far I am quite happy. I just finished a 2000 mi. trip to see Dragon Bob in northern Nevada and up to the coast of Oregon. Now I wonder if the LT makes a stronger tire sidewall for aired down applications. Softer is not necessarly less strong.
Comments?

LTs typically have a higher load rating and thicker sidewalls but you definitely want to check the specs on the brands you are considering.

Most tires aren't nearly as versatile as the VX. To get more versatility from my tires, I chose BFG ATs. They have a reputation for great on and off-road performance. To further enhance performance, I sacrificed ride and got "D" load rated tires. They have a higher load rating, are more durable, have a stiffer sidewall and can be aired up beyond 50PSI for a rock-solid sidewall that performs like an 18" on the road (or track). Off-road they are durable with as little as 10PSI and the stiffer sidewall allows better lo-PSI handling.http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b2ce20b3127cce90807cc4fcc10000003410

Quick question for anyone...I know that going to a taller tire will effect your speedometer reading and accuracy, but how will it effect the overall performance of the vehicle. I would think that low end torque, off line starts would be lagging a bit while top end would be increase? Similar to a gear ratio change. Is there much difference over a stock tire?

Yep, lo-end suffers, so does accelleration at speed w/o kick-down. Now I need a supercharger ;Db;
