A friend has just bought a JDM VX having seen mine, but having picked it up he’s worried about a noise. We took it for a run and we found the noise only occurs in 4WD when you take your foot off the gas, it sounds like a warn diff’ drone but doesn’t occur in 2WD or 4 Low, under acceleration or braking. It’s only done 25K but the dealer says it’s been stood for over a year. There is the chance it will just go as he runs it but I think he should have the dealer check it out.
Your thoughts please guys
Cheers

99/100 a noise on over run is a cv joint mostly the inner one - give them a good wiggle i am sure you'll find the one thats making the noise

Also at what speed? when i let off the gas say doing around 100kmh, i get a little bit of dif noise but as soon as i put on the gas a tad again it goes away.
normaly after greasing up the driveshaft ( 3 spots) vibration goes away

Mine is having the same issue, between 25 and 40mph especially give a whirring noise as it decelerates. The tod display on the front wheel lights up from the first bar to the third in sequence with the noise but goes away as I accelerate again. Greased driveshaft was thinking axle bearings or pinion gear in the front end?

Thanks for the come backs, interesting to note a few have a similar noise but I think the CV joint could be on target, I'll get him to check it.
Thanks

Sprey, what are those spots to grease?

Mine has howled like a banshee for the past 150,000 miles since I bought it with around 31,000 miles on it... under normal load at highway speeds. Very light (almost neutral) acceleration & it's quiet, but as soon as I'm on the gas very much at all it just drones on & on.
Good luck.

wow! thank you very much, Sprey, and big-big thanks to Etlsport.
additional question: what type of grease should I use?
i feel weirdly: i was able to change the engine in my VX, but seems im asking such lame questions :) i pretty much dont know anything about 4wd, at the same time, I can follow the instructions with no problems at all
