View Full Version : Going to pick up my VX today

Ok after about 5 years of wanting one I finally am making it happen. I'm picking up my first Vehicross this afternoon.

I was just curious though, have any of you had problems with parts availability now that Isuzu has left the U.S. market?

I guess I'm just a little nervous about 4-5 years down the line... Oh well it will be worth it.

Isuzu still has a few parts distribution warehouses across the country, so it's not too bad. Plus it's not like they've pulled completely out of North America - they still have a viable medium/heavy duty truck business here, so I imagine continuing to provide mechanical parts isn't that big an issue for them.

For the most part your major mechanical parts (engine, drivetrain, etc.) are relatively easy to find/order, especially since many of them are shared with the Trooper. Where you run into problems is with body panels, exterior/interior trim pieces, and accessories. Even so, you can usually find even the rarest of items (roof rail covers for example) on eBay if you're patient enough. Plus folks here are very helpful - usually posting a WTB thread will get you plenty of responses.

So no major worries, at least not yet. Welcome to the obsession!

Congratulations!!! Welcome to the club. There is nothing like owning and driving a VehiCROSS. The thing I still can't get over is the looks this beast gets. It's still fun. I haven't yet gotten any parts, (and I'm at 140K miles) but I need them now. The great thing about this website and these amazing people is that when you need parts, generally someone here can tell you where to get them or how to manufacture them. I don't think you can do any better than to be a part of this group of people. Again, congratulations. You won't regret your purchase or joining this club.

Welcome aboard !

You'll be all but happy to own & drive an VX.

It's so much fun just looking at people'jaws crashing down trying to figured out where in hell's name that "think" came from.

1rst think to do is getting acquainted with all & most common issues the VX runs into such as windows binding & most important is keeping the oil level at full level, check your oil at least once an week if you're driving in the city most of the time, but if highways is your way to go here and there check it no less than three times an week.

Have an full service done as soon you can depending in the current mileage.

Beside that all i can say is have fun with your new toy buddy.

Good luck !

Welcome to the fun. I really can't add anything to what the others have already said except that I'm glad that parts availability didn't scare you away from purchasing. We will try to help you if you are ever in need.

BTW, Fellow VX enthusiast Merlin at St Charles Isuzu will bend over backwards to help you get parts. His contact info is somewhere here on the site.

Tom

Maybe a front skidplate by me.

Anyway, welcome to the addiction. You don't look old enough to remember, but parts might start getting like it use to be with British sport cars, you might have to wait a week or two. If your mechanically inclined, you can also find like parts in the wrecking yards off of other Isuzu vehicle's and some GM since some parts came off of the GM parts bin.

What vt_mav meant was..... I have these special powers of persuasion and back in November was able to talk a few people selling their VX on ebay into selling me JUST their roof rack which I then sold to 3 people here who wanted these very hard-to-get items.

I only made a few dollars profit, so it's not a money making venture, just offering my help. The going price to nab one of these is around $300-$330 + shipping. If you're interested, let me know and I'll start pestering some ebay seller that has a roof rack.

For your reference, the OEM roof rack we're talking about consists of the 4 towers that attach to the roof rails, and 2 cross members. You can not find them new, just used. It's NOT the cargo basket.....you need the OEM cross members in order to attach any cargo basket. You can see pics in my gallery.

Just let me know!

Yes, welcome aboard. And a hearty crew it is.

You should take Rowhard up on that skidplate offer. Great mod for function and looks...price is right too.

Congrats on your new purchase Danny, and welcome to the addiction. Another option for a skid plate is the all steel bullet-proof "Belly Pan" 3-skid plate set made by www.KilbyEnterprises.com which covers the entire undercarraige of the VX front-to-back. Check-out the Photo Gallery of "VX-KAT" for some awesome pictures of these custom-fit VX metal skid plates. Again, welcome to the family!!!:bgwb:

Isn't it amazing how when someone joins our insanity, we get crazy all over again? I'm thrilled to know that in my stable, I have a horse unlike anything else around here. Every time I walk into the garage, I get a thrill seeing her sitting there, waiting for me. Poor girl. She needs work and I can't afford to fix her right now, but she's mine...all mine...and I'm just as in-love with her now at 140K miles as I was when I got her at 23K. I know the rest of you feel the same way, otherwise, we wouldn't be on here trying to convince otherwise sane people that our bizzarroworld is the right place to be. Hugs to all my homies, new and old. :) Congrats again, DD. You can sell your crazy here...we're never full up!
