Good Morning,
while driving to work in a stop-and-go traffic,i decided to put the car in a second gear to put less tension on the tranny and do not let it go to third, as speeds sometimes get that high and then go to zero again (nothing particular to describe - regular morning freeway traffic).
After I put into second, it shifted very harsh, and I put it in D again. But, it was too late: it does shift between second and third very badly - hard loud transmission hit.
I checked the ebay on new transmission presence. Damn, another grand :( I aslo noticed there are 2-3 solenoids for sale. Does anybody know if it is a common thing of them to break down? I didnt find anything similar on this forum, but maybe somebody will be able to help. Thanks in advance

According to the service manual a harsh shift from 1-2, 3-4 or into drive can be caused by High line pressure. Do you have access to a method of reading the trouble codes? If P1850 is showing then the manual says to replace the 'band apply solenoid'
You can get more info in the manual, which you can get in the downloads section.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Nick
Read these, then keep an eye on your trans display on the dash...might be it...:luck:

thanks! will clean the mode selector, and if it wont help, will do a pressure test at the AAMCO Shop. btw, I figured I should not the engine/tranny light ON with faulty mode selector?

Also, question not asked especially on 2nd+ owners. Is there a Transmission Interceptor installed? You will know as they are pretty obvious.

about my problem: i drove home - no problem. also, i didnt go from 3rd to 2nd gear, after reading the topics provided by Ldub, i figured the mode switch could stop working for a while and then operate properly again. anyway, im about to clean, and change the fluid. will see if the pressure test will be needed
