Trimming the body Cladding

Many of you have talked about trimming the body cladding to fit larger tires on the car. I was wondering if someone could explain this procedure a little and maybe provide some detailed pics?

For the most part, the trimming of cladding is to clear the tires when you are turning. If you look at the cladding in front of the front wheels, the very tip of the lowest, inner point of the cladding will touch the tread of larger tires if not lifted. Sorry I don't have pictures, but if you go to your beloved VX, turn the steering wheel 1/8th to 1/4th turn, the outer edge of the tire comes closest to the bumper... from this, you should be able to imagine how a larger diameter tire would come even closer. I have the Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60/18's and the don't rub at all... and unless you look close, you can't tell the cladding was even trimmed. Hope that helps.

I used a pocket knife in the parking lot of the tire shop after putting on 265/75/R16's

took all of about 2 minutes.

Yep, after getting my 18x8.5 Enkei's, I had to whip out the sawzall. Not for the front of the well, but the back. :o Piece of cake, but man, you sure feel awful while doing it. :D
