Thats right 5.12s....

Years ago, I was able to source Isuzu part #s for FRONT and REAR ring and pinion gears in the 5.12:1 ratio...:p for the isuzu 10 bolt and 12 bolt.

Also I was able to confirm that the ring gear dia. were the same as our VXs.

Unfortunaltly, I cant seem to find the part numers, somehow I misplaced them:upsetwgra

Recently, Ive done a bit of searching with no results...

Here is the deal...If I remeber correctly, they were produced on the Phillipean and Thialand models (possibly others)...Availble in a diesel powered pick-up....around the 1997-2001 era...

If anyone here has an outlet in Thailand, or if there is a member on here from the area, please chime in...:smilegray
there are alot of Isuzu owners that would be interested in these...

I received a front set of 5.12 ring and pinion gears today!!!! from Thailand...

Cost is very acceptable...$175...and they are readily available:smilewink
The rear 12 bolt will be coming soon....

Oh and Im selling them....:smilewink

Figure 2-4 weeks for delivery....

Playing with my calculator, looks like those 5.12s would be good for very close to stock drive ratio with 35" tires if your stock gears are 4.30.

Correct, however I should feel the change even more, since I also am now running a manual tranny...

could anybody supply with the link on theoretical side of the gears/pinions. those 4.7 and 5.12 numbers dont make a lot of sense to me, but I would like to know more about physics in this issue. thanks in advance

That's awesome Dub! Can't wait to use that on some of the dumb questions I get at work. ;)

hey, i do know how to use google and search. at certain instances, it seems to be easier to ask the question on forum instead of browsing through the first pages of search results, considering the fact that some of the members keep their "finds" organized (like VX Kat) and can access them fast or can read quicker than I do and find the best description using less time.

^^^ but I liked the link too (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=explain+gear+ratios) ;)

The short answer is those numbers represent the number of times the driveshaft will turn relative to one turn of the axle and wheel, due to the reduction gearing in the differential.

Putting a numerically larger gear ratio in the differential compensates for putting larger tires on the vehicle, because the larger tires effectively lower the final drive ratio. A simple percentage calculation is all that is needed to find your desired gearing.

In this case:

Desired 35" tires minus stock 29.5" size = 5.5

5.5 divided by stock 29.5" size = .186, or an 18.6% difference in tire size from stock.

Now for the gearing:

5.12 gears minus stock 4.30 = 0.82

0.82 divided by stock 4.3 = 0.19, or a 19% difference from stock gearing to the 5.12 size.

So the 5.12 gears with 35" tires are very close to the same drive ratio as stock 4.30 gears and 29.5" tires. Meaning that your vehicle's git-up-and-go will be about the same.

Received my REAR 5.12 gears the other day...for the isuzu 12 bolt ...

However, These gears are 244mm and are made to fit the Trooper 12bolt.
To use them in a VX you will need the axle shafts and 3rd member out of a 98+ Trooper...
It seems isuzu discontinued the smaller 12 bolt (VX style) and all the later ones are the bigger stronger "modified" 12 bolt....the axle shafts are Dana 60 sized and the ring gear is larger also....ARB is availble with these.

I will be installing them very soon...

Are you positive the shafts just swap over? I would think at LEAST you would need the new bearings for the axle too since the axle shafts are larger. I think it might be easiest to just swap the whole axle. I've debated doing this with the VX because of the Dana 60 similarities. Any word on the front ring and pinion?

OK, as we all know, things change...:rolleyesg
What with uncooperative weather, heat/humidity induced laziness, & moving, I'll consider myself lucky to get the geerz/locker in before Moab in May...:(

He said something in a PM to me before about getting the wrong ones when they sent them so that's why I was asking

Got this from Jerry over on Planet:

AXLE BEARIGNS ARE THE SAME , AXLES ARE LARGER SLIGHTLY FROM THE RETAINER AREA ALL THE WAY TO THE SPLINE END , BUT THE OUT BOARD SEALS AND THE AXLE BEARINGS A RE ALL THE SAME FOR THE 12 BOLT AXLE

Very interesting.

BTW, if I rememeber correctly, ARB discontinued the locker for 98+ all that is left is the stock on the shelves.
