(a little background) Having previously cleared all CELs in my own garage, I ended up getting pinned down with a CEL 342 and stalling/hesitation on warm starts (was previously running). The CEL was a malfunction with the camshaft position sensor, and considering I had JUST torn it down and put her back together, I was damned if I was doing it again just to get to the sensor (under the S/C plenum, which I has JUST mounted after replacing gaskets)....
So, off to the shop it went so they could get some work and I would be doing my part to help out a local speed-shop in this injured economy.
I asked that they went over EVERYTHING. Tear it down, fine tooth through everything. Let me know any little thing they find, regardless whether it was related to the CEL or not. After 2 weeks of picking apart and inspection, the internals looked brand new so there was hesitation with no debate on replacing anything. There were some recommendations on improving S/C performance but I didn't want to add, just correct.
In the end, it all came down to a disconnected camshaft position sensor, nothing else. I can only guess that when I was previously routing one of my coolant plumbs under the S/C around to the rear to the throttle body, it caught the clip on the sensor and broke it loose. In any case, it's all good now. Note to self.... be more careful next time. :_wtf:
New fluids through and through, pristine clean engine bay, joints lubed up to the ears. Runs like brand new, with the exception of the S/C. :cool!:
So, very, very nice to have her back. The STi was actually getting a little boring. This is probably gonna be a great weekend for a complete detail for the VX....
