I've been wanting to try this for years, so after greg put the bug back in my head I couldn't get rid of it. So I pulled out my sub box carpeting, bought 3 rolls of checker plate mat from Costco and picked up a 1/2" rubber exercise mat - now all I need are a half dozen weekends to play around back there.

I've never had to use my backseats, they've been out of there for years, so I'm lucky that way.

So far I've built the wheel wells, placed the floor, did the stereo (priorities!).
Now I just have to find a few days and some patience to line the interior with the checker plate rubber. Tacking it up with a few screws and pulling it taught for now sort of looks like it will work with some patience. The trick will be to finish it off around the windows, roof liner, and front seatbelts. I have some thoughts...:smack::smack:

Once I pulled off the plastic, I remembered what I did underneath - dynamat and ensolite foam. I oulled the foam off and am working around the dynamat.
Man that crap is messy to take off in some areas!!

Project so far:

If in the end I don't like it, I can take it all out and go back to stock.

To really do it right, you need to have the bare metal showing and fill in the holes and depressions. There will be areas where I can press the liner is an inch or two at the concaves. I may try to fill in the voids with spray foam once the liner in on (poke a hole - fill - seal hole).

Will update when I'm "done". For me, things are never really done, everything is at certain stages...:grinb:

cheers

I love my kids, but the VX would be so much better without a back seat, that is why I have been looking at putting the VX into badass daily driver look and picking up an old trooper or something for wheeling. The VX would still get her time on the trails.
Your project looks pretty sweet. Just frame in the rear windows and you will be set. Very nice job.
