I know there's been posts before buy I'm into the hood insert replacement fetish right now. Mine, as many others, has shown me those wonderful stress cracks & uglieness! Thinking about a carbon fiber since my VX is a proton.
Any suggestions out there? I did like one of the previous posts showing, I believe, a subaru scoop. Anyway, looking for ideas!
Thanks, Scott (BeeVenom)

Im working on my "overhead consol" from a old chevy blazer . Im using a 3M CARBON FIBER VINYL (http://www.carbonfibergear.com/direct/3m-di-noc-carbon-fiber-vinyl) to cover some area on the overhead consol.Pretty easy to work with :) Here you can find some "how video , and product information (http://www.carbonfibergear.com/direct/3m-di-noc-carbon-fiber-vinyl)" Also you can search on youtube for 3M CARBON FIBER (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MO80LrIK_g)

Features
•Self-Adhesive using 3M Comply adhesive
•Stretchable with heat
•12 year indoor lifespan and 4 years outdoors
•Water resistant
•Can be cleaned with soap and water
•Note: 3M DI-NOC installations should be considered permanent

I have a CF hood insert and besides discoloring, it's starting to break down, displaying stress cracks in several places. I don't know if it's worth all the trouble to do one in CF - thinking right now of painting it.

So crazy! I just got my sample of this stuff and was going to post about it on the forum. So far it seems pretty amazing. It's got a nice texture and if it's anything like other 3M products I've used the 4yr lifespan is really more of a half lifespan.

If it hasn't already, I highly recommend clear-coating the c.f. insert. The clearcoat offers UV protection and will keep it intact much longer. You can also get creative with the clear and add a little color to it, and that would change the hue slightly of the piece........ have fun with it!!:winkgray:

ps... if you decide not to use your cf insert, I would love to buy it from you.
